Abstract The effect of polyvanadates and vanadium oxide bronzes of alkali metals on aluminum-powder oxidation has been studied by thermogravimetry and x-ray phase analysis. The macromechanism of promotion of aluminum oxidation in which the catalytically active component is meltedNa 2AlxV12O31 has been established. It is shown that the intermediate product of vanadium-containing slag processing can be used as an activator.
