Notes: Abstract This paper reviews small intestinal lymphoma. Although a major emphasis is placed on primary small intestinal lymphoma of the “Western” type, the important topic of lymphoma in celiac disease is discussed. Our own recent experience of 7 patients with lymphoma in celiac disease is presented. The lymphoma of immunoproliferative small intestinal disease (“Mediterranean” lymphoma) and the associated α-chain disease are also reviewed, with emphasis on the differences from the “Western” type of primary small intestinal lymphoma.

Notes: Abstract Data is presented on distinctive gravel bedforms which occur in the tidal marine environment of the west Solent in Southern England. Discrete zones of gravel waves of different sizes and flat bed gravel occur in similar depths and hydrodynamic conditions. In the absence of comparable field data the conclusions are related to flume data: a purely physical explanation is not obvious and requires more detailed hydrodynamic data. It is considered that other factors such as availability of mobile sediment and biological accretion may be important influences.

Notes: Summary Eleven families with X-linked dominant hypophosphataemic rickets (HPDR) have been typed for a series of X chromosome markers. Linkage with probe 99.6 (DXS41) was demonstrated with a peak lod score of 4.82 at 10% recombination. Multilocus linkage analysis showed that HPDR maps distal to 99.6; this probe has previously been located at Xp22.31-p21.3 by in situ hybridisation. In the mouse hypophosphataemia (Hyp) maps to the distal part of the X chromosome; our location in man is consistent with a scheme which relates the mouse and human X chromosomes by two rearrangements. No marker has yet been found which shows no recombination with HPDR.

Notes: Summary A panel of patients with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD and BMD) has been screened with the cDNA probes Cf56a and Cf23a, which detect exons in the central part of the DMD gene. One or more exons were deleted in 60% of patients. The deletions were mapped and prove to be heterogeneous in size and extent, particularly in DMD. Deletions specific to DMD and to BMD are described. Half of all BMD patients have a deletion of one particular small group of exons; smaller deletions within this same group produce the more severe DMD.

Notes: Abstract The ionization constant of orthophosphoric acid, determined by conductivity measurements, decreased from 7.11×10−3 at 25°C to 6.2×10−4 mol-kg−1 at 200°C. The pressure effect to 2000 bar was also measured and the ratio K2000/K1 is 2.7 at 25°C and 3.7 at 200°C. The standard partial molar volume change for the ionization at 1 bar, $$\Delta \overline V _{_1^o }$$ , changes from −16.1 at 25°C to −33.3 cm3-mol−1 at 200°C. The partial molar compressibility change for the ionization, $$\Delta \overline x ^\circ$$ , varies from −3.8×10−3 to −8.3×10−3 cm3-mol−1 bar−1 over the same temperature range.
