Notes: The natural role played by coherent states in the geometric quantization program is brought out by studying the mathematical equivalence between two physical interpretations that have recently been proposed for this program. These interpretations are based, respectively, on the modular algebra structure of prequantization, and the reproducing kernel structure of phase space quantization. The arguments are presented in this paper for the particular case where the phase space of the system considered is the cotangent bundle T*M of a homogeneous manifold M, and for didactic reasons, the latter is taken to be a real vector space.

Notes: Summary. This report analyses 1234 patients with CIN and noncondylomatous wart virus infection (NCWVI) managed by CO2 laser ablation in the Regional Department of Gynaecological Oncology, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead from 1979 to 1983. Thirty-five patients (3%) were lost to follow-up. Of the 1157 patients currently under review and with at least 1 year of follow-up, 44 (3·8%) were laser treatment failures. This group is analysed and the results compared with other series.

Notes: Abstract The removal of alumina inclusions from steel melts is characterized both qualitatively and quantitatively. Two specific types of filters have been used in this investigation: (1) tabular alumina having 0.2 to 0.5 cm particle size, and (2) extruded cellular monolithic alumina having 400 square cells per in2. The starting steel melts contained alumina inclusions of the order of 1 to 5Μm in size. Both chemical analyses and quantitative metallography of samples before and after filtration were carried out; in the latter, volume fraction and the size distribution of the inclusions were evaluated. It was found that alumina inclusions greater than 2.5Μm were completely removed by filtration and those smaller than 2.5Μm were substantially reduced in terms of number of inclusions per mm2. A good correlation has been found between filtration performance data evaluated by quantitative metallographic techniques and those evaluated by chemical analysis.

Notes: Summary Interspersed simple repetitive DNA is a convenient genetic marker for analysis of restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) because of the numbers and the frequencies of its alleles. Oligonucleotide probes specific for variations of the GA C T A simple repeats have been designed and hybridized to a panel of human DNAs digested with various restriction enzymes. Numerous RFLPs were demonstrated in AluI and MboI digested DNA with “pure” GATA oligonucleotides as probes. The optimal length of the probe for RFLP analysis was 20 bases taking into account fragment lengths (1.5-7 kilobases = kb), signal to background ratio, and number of clearly evaluable RFLPs. By using different restriction enzymes individual-specific hybridization patterns (“DNA fingerprints”) can be established. Hypervariable simple repeat fragments are stably inherited in a Mendelian fashion. Advantages of this method are discussed.

Notes: Abstract Differential scanning calorimetric studies of protein solution provided the freezable water content as a function of concentration. Total water content was obtained by vacuum dehydration. The difference between the two gave the non-freezing water content in protein solutions. The values obtained by these techniques were 2–3 times larger than those obtained on the basis of NMR measurements on the same solutions.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Reaktionen des 5-Sulphosalicylat-Anions mit VO(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(II) und Mn(II) ergaben Bis-(5-sulphosalicylato)-diaquo-Komplexe.
Notes: Abstract The reactions of the 5-sulphosalicylate anion with VO(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(II) and Mn(II) gave bis-(5-sulphosalicylato)-diaquo complexes. The structures of these complexes were predicted from elemental analyses and IR spectra. Their decompositions were studied by TG, DTG and DTA. Decomposition occurred in two steps: elimination of two water molecules, followed by decomposition of the dehydrated complex to give metal oxide as end-product. The thermal stability sequence for the complexes was VO(II) 〉 Cu(II) 〉 Co(II) ≈ Ni(II) ≈ Fe(II) 〉 Mn(II), which is in accordance with the covalency sequence for the M-O bond.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Kinetik der thermischen Dehydratisierung von Bis-salicylato-diaquo-Komplexen von VO(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(II), Mn(II) und Zn(II) wurden untersucht.
Notes: Abstract The kinetics of thermal dehydration of bis-salicylato-diaquo complexes of VO(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(II), Mn(II) and Zn(II) were studied. The activation energies and other kinetic parameters were evaluated. The observed kinetic parameters indicate first-order reactions. The activation energy of the thermal dehydration decreases in the sequence VO(II) 〉 Cu(II) 〉 Zn(II) 〉 Co(II) 〉 Ni(II) 〉 Fe(II) 〉 Mn(II), which is also the sequence for the difference in carboxyl group IR frequency.

Notes: Abstract The spectral resolution of phase space representations of the Galilei group is achieved by deriving all possible decompositions into irreducible representations corresponding to reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. Spectral syntheses in terms of eigenfunction expansions, as well as in terms of continuous resolutions of the identity, are achieved. For the latter, the existence, uniqueness and other basic properties of resolution generators are established. This is shown to lead to systems of covariance related to measurements of stochastic phase space values performed with extended quantum test particles, whose proper wavefunctions are the aforementioned resolution generators.
