Notes: It was found that strong bonding takes place when a pair of clean, mirror-polished silicon surfaces are contacted at room temperature after hydrophilic surface formation. Bonding strength reaches the fracture strength of silicon bulk after heating above 1000 °C. Electric resistivity at the interface is less than 10−6 Ω/cm2. Bonding p-type silicon to n-type silicon forms a diode. The reaction between silanol groups formed on the surface may cause the bonding force. Heating above 1000 °C was thought to diffuse oxygen to inside the silicon bulk, forming an epitaxial-like lattice continuity at the interface.

Notes: Abstract /Pyropheophytinato a/ iron/III/ chloride [Fe/Pyropheo-a/Cl] and /pyropheophytinato b/ iron/III/ chloride [Fe/Pyropheo-b/Cl] have been prepared and characterized by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The Mössbauer parameters of the iron/III/pyropheophytins are similar to those of iron/III/ porphyrins. A comparison of the quadrupole splittings for the iron/III/ pyropheophytins with those for the iron/III/ pheophytins suggests that the deviations of the cyclopentenone ring and the saturated pyrrole ring from the macrocyclic plane become smaller with the removal of the methoxycarbonyl group.

Notes: Summary Pacemaker potentials for ureteral peristalsis were recorded in vivo with a fine, flexible acupuncture needle electrode inserted transparenchymally into the renal pelvis of anesthetized dogs. The recorded pacemaker potentials were quite similar, in every respect, to those shown in vitro, suggesting the availability of this electrode in recording and detailed analysis of the pacemaker activity in studies requiring in vivo preparations.

Notes: Abstract The narrow band noise and the transient voltage oscillation were investigated in a k0.3MoO3 sample, which showed different I–V characteristics in the non-linear conductivity region for dc and pulse methods. For repeated current pulses, after a sufficiently long duration of dc current, the voltage response showed relaxation behavior with a relaxation time of about 30 min at 77 K. Similar relaxation was also observed for the opposite case of a dc current applied after repeated pulses. The slope of frequency of voltage oscillation against CDW current was constant through these relaxation process in both dc and pulse cases. But the peak of narrow band noise is larger and sharper after repeated pulses than in the dc stationary state. This result was understood as an enhancement of the coherent-phase region for voltage oscillation in the case of repeated pulses.

Notes: Abstract We have described the clinical and biochemical status of two patients with tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) deficiency due to impaired dihydrobiopterin biosynthesis. BH4 administration appeared to improve the mental and psychological status more than did neurotransmitter replacement therapy alone. This enhancement of activities of daily life was seen with a dose of BH4 as low as 1.25 mg kg−1 day−1. Granulocyte adherence capacity was below normal and recovered after BH4 therapy in both patients. B-cell differentiation capacity was altered either before or after therapy.

Notes: The application of NMR for natural organic compounds has been carried out from the early history of NMR. But they reported on the liquid state NMR and the samples were limited to the materials which dissolved in proper solvents. It has been possible to measure the samples in the solid state in 1970s and is widely used as a familiar analytical method in 1980s. Whereas some of the data is inadequate, concerning cellulose derivatives, in particular, only nitrate and acetate were reported by Patterson1 and Doyle,2 respectively. In this paper, the 13C CP/MAS solid state NMR spectra of several cellulose derivatives are shown and the relationship between the structure and spectrum is discussed.
