Notes: [Auszug] Because nucleons are bound states of quarks, nuclear matter should at sufficiently high density become a quark plasma. Assuming quantum chromodynamics as the basic theory of nuclear forces, it is possible to derive strong-interaction thermodynamics and study the nature of this transition. ...

Notes: Abstract First we consider the phenomenology of deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoration for strongly interacting matter at non-vanishing baryon number density. Subsequently, we present numerical results obtained by a Monte Carlo evaluation of statistical QCD on an 83×3 lattice, using Wilson fermions withN f =2, in fourth order hopping parameter expansion, and suppressing the imaginary part of the fermion action. We consider baryonic chemical potentials up to μa=0.6μa=0.6 (μ/Λ L ≃200); in this range, the critical parameters for deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoration are found to coincide.

Notes: Abstract We consider a three-phase model of strongly interacting matter, treating each phase as an ideal gas modified by a simple phenomenological interaction feature. For nuclear matter, we take into account the baryonic repulsion; for the quark-gluon plasma, we include the bag pressure; the constituent quark phase has a non-zero effective quark mass as well as an independent bag pressure. By studying which phase dominates thermodynamically in what region of temperature and baryon number density, we obtain a phase diagram for strongly interacting matter and gain some insight on the relation between deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoration.

Notes: Abstract The formation of deconfined matter in high energy collisions is expected to result in reducedJ/ψ production. The finite space-time extension of any quark-gluon plasma thus produced leads to a rather characteristic dependence ofJ/ψ suppression on the longitudinal and transverse momentum of theJ/ψ. We study in particular the longitudinal momentum dependence and discuss its implications for nuclear collision experiments.

Notes: Abstract We study the binding and deconfinement of heavy quarks in a thermal environment, using a non-relativistic confinement potential model with color screening. As a result, we obtain the dependence of the dissociation energies, the binding radii and the masses of heavy quark resonances (charmonium and bottonium states) on the color screening lengthr D of the medium, and we determine for the different resonances those values ofr D below which no more binding is possible. Finally, we consider the implication of our results on resonance suppression as signal for deconfinement.

Notes: Abstract We study the thermodynamic behaviour of spin and gauge systems in the presence of a quenched external random field. In particular, we show that forZ(2) andSU (2) gauge theory in two space dimensions, the random field destroys the ordered phase and thus leads to a shift in the lower critical dimension, just as found for the corresponding Ising model.
