Notes:
Summary The influence of the flow rate v and the eluent composition on the duration and quality of the separation of homocyclic sulfur molecules on C18 bonded phases has been investigated. In the range 1 to 4 ml/min the number of theoretical plates of the column used is independent of v. With a ternary mixture containing cyclohexane, ethanol and methanol the compounds S6 to S28 are separated and identified within 20 min; using a gradient technique these molecules are analysed quantitatively within 45 min. The slope of the linear calibration functions A = f(c) (with A = peak area and c = concentration) is a function of the ring size which allows to calculate these functions for S n species not available as pure compounds.
