    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bei 23 Patienten mit Pseudo-Lupus-Syndrom wurden die antimitochondrialen Antikörper in ihrem Titerverlauf über einen Zeitraum von bis zu 5 Jahren beobachtet. Die während der Akutphase sehr hohen AMA-Titer fielen in den meisten Fällen innerhalb der ersten 6 Monate deutlich ab. Nach Reexposition mit Venopyronum-Dragees (VPD) kam es innerhalb von 3 Tagen zu einem Anstieg der Titer bis auf das 5fache des Ausgangswertes. Das in Venopyronum-Dragees enthaltene Analgetikum Phenopyrazon ist das die Antikörper-Produktion auslösende Agens. Der Beweis dafür wurde durch entsprechende Reexpositionsversuche sowie durch die Stimulation von Patienten-Lymphozyten mit phenopyrazonhaltigen Medikamenten erbracht. Zelluläre Immunreaktionen gegenüber dem Medikament konnten bis zu 6 Monate nach akuter Krankheitsphase nachgewiesen werden, fehlten jedoch in den ersten Wochen nach dem durch das Medikament induzierten Schub. Der Übergang in eine chronische Verlaufsform war bei keinem der 23 Patienten zu beobachten. Ein Rezidiv stand immer im Zusammenhang mit einer Medikamenten-Einnahme. Auch andere pyrazonhaltige Medikamente können ein PLE-Syndrom auslösen.
    Notes: Summary 23 patients with proven pseudolupus-syndrome were observed over a period of five years; titers of specific antimitochondrial antibodies (AMA) were tested in a follow-up study after the last intake of Venopyronum-Dragees (VPD), a drug combination of plant glycosides, horse-chestnut extracts and phenopyrazone. Cellular immune reactions against the eliciting drug, depended on the date of the acute phase and were examined in two patients after reexposure. High titers in the acute phase decreased rapidly in most of the cases within the first six months. After reexposure with VPD, AMA rose within three days up to the five fold compared with the initial titer. Only the analgetic component of VPD, phenopyrazone, was able to induce a significant increase of AMA-titer after reexposure. A specific cellular sensitivity to this substance could be demonstrated by lymphocyte stimulation in the presence of a phenopyrazone containing drug preparation. There was no chronic course of the disease; clinical exazerbation could be observed only after new intake of the drug. The analysis of drug history shows, that other pyrazolone containing drugs may also be able to induce a pseudolupus-syndrome.

    Notes: The generation of semiconductor nanowires (NWs) by a “bottom-up” approach is oftechnological interest for the development of new nanodevices. In most cases Si and SiGenanowires (NWs) are grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and by chemical vapor deposition(CVD) on the base of the vapor-liquid-solid-mechanism (VLS). In both cases small metal dropletsact as a seed for the NW formation. The article mainly refers to the specific features of the MBEgrowth. The application of metals related to the VLS growth concept (quite often gold droplets areused) also causes several disadvantages of this approach, e.g., the formation of a metal wetting layeron all surfaces, dislocations, and electric active point defects. Concerning the formation of devices,technological steps, such as oxidation and doping of NWs, have to be considered. Specifictechniques have to be applied to investigate the properties of individual semiconductor NWs. Someexamples shall illustrate this topic

    Notes: Summary Water use patterns and the seasonal progression of functional leaf area were determined for Solidago canadensis L. var. scabra and S. juncea Ait., two species of cooccurring goldenrods which differ in their competitive ability and distribution along soil moisture gradients. Field measurements of diurnal trends in stomatal conductances and leaf water potentials indicate little difference between the species. Laboratory gas exchange measurements of assimilation rates (13.15–13.25 micromoles CO2 m-2 sec-1), stomatal conductances (31.53–38.44 centimoles H2O m-2 sec-1), water use efficiencies (8.10–9.66 mg CO2 g H2O-1) and stomatal response to low leaf water potentials (i.e. initiation of stomatal closure at -16 to -20 bars) were also similar for the two species. Differences in their maximum functional leaf areas (421 cm2 vs 209 cm2 for S. canadensis and S. juncea, respectively, at maturity), phenologies (S. juncea flowers about one month earlier than S. canadensis) and the presence of the non-reproductive rosette habit in the dry site species (S. juncea) are probably more important in explaining the differential distributions of these two species than differences in their water use patterns.

    Notes: Abstract Horse liver contains previously unrecognized isozymes of alcohol dehydrogenase. In contrast to the molecular forms identified up to now, under the conditions employed these variants migrate toward the anode on starch gel electrophoresis and were separated from the cathodic isozymes by DEAE-cellulose chromatography. They were then purified on agarose-hexane-AMP. Their physicochemical and compositional characteristics are similar to those x alcohol dehydrogenases from human liver. Like these and similar ones from simian liver, they retain most of their activity in the presence of10 mm 4-methylpyrazole, oxidize short-chain primary alcohols very poorly, and appear to prefer longer chain primary alcohols and ω-hydroxy fatty acids as substrates.
