Notes: Summary The disposition of propranolol stereoisomers after administration of a single oral dose of the racemic drug was investigated in seven hyperthyroid patients before and after antithyroid drug therapy. The possibility of hypersensitivity to propranolol in the patients was evaluated by constructing plasma propranolol concentration — beta-blocking effect curves. There was no statistically significant difference in elimination half-life (t1/2) between (±)- and (−)-propranolol before and after antithyroid drug therapy. However, the plasma clearance ( $$\dot V_p $$ ) of (−)-propranolol was smaller than that of (±)-propranolol, and the difference was statistically significant after antithyroid drug therapy. Decreased $$\dot V_p $$ was observed in 3 aged hyperthyroid patients compared to the value after antithyroid drug therapy. $$\dot V_p $$ decreased or did not change in young patients after therapy. No significant difference was observed in the relationship between the tilt-induced pulse rate response and plasma propranolol concentration when treated patients became euthyroid compared to their response in the hyperthyroid state.

Notes: [Auszug] Figure 1 shows an outline of the purification procedure. We used as starting material the vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) fraction (1 kg) obtained from 200,000 porcine duodena3. The crude material was purified by CM-cellulose and CM-Sephadex column chromatography using a linear gradient of ...

Notes: Summary Nuclear matrix was prepared from Vero cells infected with herpes simplex virus type 2. In the early stage of infection, both 155K and 110K viral proteins were associated with the nuclear matrix, while in the late stage, 155K protein, presumably a viral capsid protein, was predominantly associated with the matrix. Electron microscopic study showed that empty capsids were bound to the filamentous networks of the nuclear matrix of the late stage. Neither viral DNA nor viral DNA polymerase activity was associated with the nuclear matrix. These results may indicate that the nuclear matrix plays some role in the growth of herpes simplex virus, especially during the morphogenesis.

Notes: Abstract Two identical heavy-ions represented by Fermi gases of cubic shape collide and coalesce to form a rectangular shape. The energy release due to the coalescence is estimated by using simple model and the energy of the coalescent nucleus is calculated as a function of the shape parameters. We find that a rectangular shape, which is compressed in the direction of collision, is energetically more favoured. The structure of the coalescent nucleus is next investigated. It is expressed as a superposition ofn-particlen-hole states. We find that the probability distribution ofn-particlen-hole states has a Gaussian form and its peak value ofn is proportional to the excitation energy, while the width is proportional to the square root of the excitation energy. The average energy of then-particlen-hole states is found to be approximatelynε F whereε F is the Fermi energy. Finally discussions are given in connection with experimental data.

Notes: Abstract A current oscillation phenomenon in SOGICON type Si device fabricated by the use of a planar process is studied. The oscillation is generated in the region between anode and notch which is located at the center on the sample. A considerably high electric field is observed in the notch region. Considering the hot-electron effect due to the high electric field, the mechanism underlying the current oscillation is discussed.

Notes: Abstract A microscopic calculation has been done for the friction coefficient for use in the deep-inelastic collision of heavy nuclei. We adopted the formalism of the linear response theory as a basis and used the adiabatic base of the two-center shell model. Several reaction channels with the total mass numbers of 236 and 260 systems were investigated. The friction coefficients for the radial and deforming motions including the coupling term were calculated as a function of the distance between two nuclei and deformation of the two nuclei for each channel. The general feature of the friction coefficient, its strength and form factor, was clarified in this model and comparison with the results of other models were done. It was found that our model gives a physically plausible value for the friction coefficient as a whole.

Notes: Summary The oxidizing power of rice roots comprises two components,i. e., oxygen release and enzymatic oxidation as measured by α-naphthylamine oxidation. Microscopic examination of roots shows a columnar arrangement of cells having structural intercellular spaces that may serve as air passage pipes in the tip region of the root. Both oxygen release and α-naphthylamine oxidation were studied as function of atmospheric oxygen concentration, light, temperature of root environment, respiratory inhibitors, and nutritional status of the plant. The results led to the concept that α-naphthylamine oxidation is a part of the respiration, and that the oxygen which is not consumed by respiration is diffused into the surrounding environment. Both processes are governed by molecular oxygen supply from shoots. At 25°C, the oxygen release of 3-week-old seedlings of IR36 was about 9 times greater than the amount of oxygen needed to account for α-naphthylamine oxidation rate.
