Notes: [Auszug] Using a better defined antigen, the XI leukaemia-specific antigen, Sato et al.4 demonstrated that the success of transplantation immunity, induced in specifically immunised mice, is H-2 dependent. Antitumour resistance is domi-nantly inherited in those Fi hybrids which have appropriate Ir gene(s). ...

Notes: Summary The morphological characteristics of three clones of hamster brain cells transformed in vitro by polyoma virus and of the tumors obtained after subcutaneous grafting of these cells in syngenic animals are reported. These clones appeared to be glial in nature by light and electron microscopy. The initial tumors induced by the three clones presented astrocytic features both by electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry. Analysis of the subsequent in vivo passages showed a decrease in cell differentiation, which was accompanied by a decrease in the latency period; after 2 years of serial transplantation, the tumors seemed poorly differentiated gliomas. A control cell line of hamster cerebellar cells evolved similarly.

Notes: Abstract This paper presents a theory which allows the systematic synthesis of a class of iterative algorithms. The basic idea consists of using a specially structured model called thep-algorithm and a set of transformations. These transformations are chosen so that if thep-algorithm solves a given problem, then the new algorithm obtained by repeated application of these transformations still solves the problem. One of the applications of the approach is the synthesis of algorithms which satisfy a-priori given specifications. Given a set of primitives, one may transform an algorithm which uses primitives not in the allowable set into an algorithm which uses only allowable primitives. The theory is illustrated by the systematic transformation of a well known algorithm for optimization, the Frank-Wolfe algorithm.

Notes: Abstract True accessory nuclei with the characteristic “double” membrane structure have been observed in the oocytes of the dipterans (Nematocera) Phryne cincta and P. fenestralis. They seem to arise from proliferations of the nuclear membrane. Although they often cling to the nucleus after their formation, they differ from it in certain structural details; their inner membranes are less electron-dense, and they have a greater frequency of pores.

Notes: Abstract Male meiotic sterile mutations were selected among X-linked male—steriles by detection of micronuclei in early spermatids. Despite severe defects in the 1st or 2nd meiotic spindles in all mutants, no effect on mitosis was observed. Various features of spindle structure, chromosome segregation, and centriole movements were compared in seven meiotic steriles and in XO males. Chromosome behaviour and centriole movement were always affected concomitantly, and were both shown to be genetically independent of “centre” formation in the meiotic spindles. Precocious and delayed centromere separation was observed in the various mutants in both divisions, and similarly attributed to basic spindle lesions rather than chromosome defects. Attachment of the centriole body to the membrane of the spermatid nucleus was normal only in mutants where second division nuclei were formed. The role of the centriole body was shown to be independent of membrane attachment.—The phenomena observed in this study were discussed mainly with regard to genetic interdependence of morphogenetic processes during male meiosis. A common base for the pleiotropic defects of meiotic steriles and XO males is suggested, and the genetic control of meiosis is re-evaluated in the light of comparison with fertile meiotic mutants.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Wirksamkeit verschiedener extracorporaler Detoxikationsmaßnahmen bei Carbromalvergiftungen wurde an Bastardhunden verglichen.
Notes: Abstract The efficiency of different detoxication methods for Carbromal intoxications was evaluated on bastard dogs using haemofiltration, haemodialysis and haemoperfusion with coated charcoal and polystyrene resins. Clearance rates and eliminated amounts of Carbromal and bromine were compared. Haemoperfusion is most effective in the elimination of Carbromal and haemodialysis for removal of bromide ions. Haemofiltration was least effective for both and should therefore not be used for the treatment of Carbromal intoxications.
