Zusammenfassung Durch die mikrovasculäre Anastomose zwischen der Art. tempo ralis superficialis und einem corticalen Ast der Art. cerebri media wird ein neuer Kollateralkreislauf zu einem Gebiet cerebraler Ischämie geschaffen. Die prophylaktische Maß nahme gegen drohende cerebrale Insulte kommt bei cerebralen Gefäßprozessen zum Einsatz, bei denen gefäßchirurgische Eingriffe das Strombahnhindernis nicht beseitigen können. Der Eingriff ist angezeigt bei Patienten mit transienten ischämischen Attacken, prolongiertem Defizit und bei ausgewählten Fällen nach completed stroke.

Summary The purpose of a microvascular anastomosis between the superficial temporal artery and a cortical branch of the middle cerebral artery is to supply additional collateral blood flow to an ischemic cortical region of the brain. In patients with cerebro vascular lesions that are inaccessible or inoperable with conventional surgical techniques, EIAB seems a promising approach in that it appears to provide a prophylactic effect against further threatened cerebrovascular accidents in patients presenting with transient ischemic attacks, prolonged ischemic deficits and carefully selected cases of completed strokes.
