Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Thermodesorption studies on the interaction of propylene and oxygen over solid CoO−MgO solutions have been carried out. The activation energy of desorption, Ed, for 12% CoO−MgO, 1, 5% CoO−MgO and MgO samples was found to be 10.5, 6.5 and 8.8 kcal/mol, respectively. Pre-adsorption of oxygen or simultaneous adsorption of propylene and oxygen were shown to lead to irreversible adsorption of propylene on the solid solutions.

Notes: Conclusions 1. The introduction of vanadium and molybdenum oxides into MgO gives rise to the formation of acid centers which bond with adsorbed methylpyrazine and 4-methylpyrimidine through the ring nitrogen atom. 2. Increasing the temperature changes the state of these active centers and thereby increases the strength of coordinational bonding of the methylpyrazine and 4-methylpyrimidine with the surface of the vanadium and molybdenum oxides on MgO. Similar effects are not observed in the interaction of these diazines with the γ-Al2O3 surface. 3. The interaction of oxygen with methylpyrazine and 4-methylpyrimidine adsorbed on vanadium and molybdenum oxides supported by MgO gives rise to the formation of surface heterocyclic carbonyl compounds.

Notes: Conclusions 1. The CO adsorbed on CoO-MgO solid solutions with high specific surface areas is bound to three different types of surface centers. The first type is a pair of Co2+ ions, one in octahedral coordination and one in square pyramidal coordination, each weakly interacting with neighboring ions. The second type of center is an individual Co2+ ion in square pyramidal coordination and strongly interacting with neighboring Co2+ ions in the same coordination. The third type of center is a variant of the second, one ion Co2+ ion in square pyramidal coordination interacting with neighboring Co2+ ions in octahedral coordination. 2. The CO molecule bonds more firmly to centers of the first type than to centers of either of the other types.

Notes: Conclusions 1. Acrolein and methacrolein coordinately bond through the aldehyde group oxygen during adsorption on the surface of cobalt molybdate catalysts modified by Co, V, and Mo ions. 2. The C=C bond of the aldehyde does not participate in the formation of surface compounds with cobalt molybdate. 3. Acrylates and methacrylates are formed in the interaction of acrylic and methacrylic acids with the catalyst surface. 4. Modification of cobalt molybdate with Co, V, and Mo ions changes the strength of surface bonding and affects the catalytic reaction involved in the formation of CO and CO2.

Notes: Conclusions 1. Spectral investigations using a closed method showed the existence of a strong adsorption of cyclohexane (CH) on NaY zeolite in the precatalytic temperature region. 2. In the case of passage of a mixture of C6H12+O2, NaY zeolite is characterized by the appearance of the absorption bands 1720, 1780, and 1820 cm−1, corresponding to carbonyl-containing and peroxide compounds, at 60–80°. In the case of partial replacement of the Na+ ion by Cu2+, the formation of these compounds is not recorded up to 180°. 3. The process of oxidation of CH on zeolites is of a heterogeneous — homogeneous character. The transition of the reaction into the volume occurs in the case of sodium zeolite at∼120°, and in the case of copper — sodium zeolite at 220°. 4. A fluctuating system of the reaction of oxidation of CH on NaY zeolite is of an autocatalytic character and is associated with the periodic accumulation of peroxide-type compounds on the surface of the zeolites.

Notes: Conclusions 1. The reaction of oxygen with surface-propylene complexes at room temperature on a 0.1% CoO-MgO sample leads to the formation of mild oxidation products with their escape into space. 2. The effect of a discrete, “jumplike” liberation of the reaction product was detected in the case of the 0.1% CoO-MgO sample, with a simultaneous sharp increase in the oxygen absorption. This effect is practically absent for the 12% CoO-MgO. 3. A possible mechanism was proposed for the reaction of oxygen with surface-propylene complexes.

Notes: Conclusions 1. The surface of a SnO2-Sb2O4 catalyst is uniformly homogeneous with respect to the heats of adsorption of isobutylene. The heats vary from 50 to 20 kcal/mole as the degree of coverage is increased to 18% of a monolayer. 2. Isobutylene is adsorbed on SnO2-Sb2O4 in two forms: reversible (desorbed in the range 79–100° with Edes=21 kcal/mole) and irreversible. 3. Irreversibly chemisorbed isobutylene exists on the surface primarily in the form of theπ-methallyl complex.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract An ESR study has shown that under the action of oxygen pulses, radical ions O 2 − with gI=2.0085 and gII=2.087 are generated at room temperature on the surface of 1% CoO−MgO. Heating of the sample to 150 °C in the spectrometer results in complete disappearance of the O 2 − signal from the ESR spectra. The variation of the O 2 − signal intensity with time due to the interaction between propene and oxygen adsorbed on the sample surface, has been measured.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The interaction of propene and oxygen with Co2+, Co3+ and Mg2+ ions on the MgO lattice surface, as well as the adsorption of charged forms of O 2 − and π-allyl radical have been studied by a quantum-chemical method. Propene adsorption has been found to be stronger on Co3+ than on Co2+ and Mg2+ ions. Unlike propene, oxygen is adsorbed more strongly on Co2+ ions with subsequent electron transfer to an oxygen molecule. The data obtained are compared with experimental results.
