Notes: [Auszug] We studied the effect of varying the concentration and number of treatments with kinetin on the susceptibility of detached N. glutinosa L. leaves to TMV. Eight leaves from the four mid-positions of 10 week old N. glutinosa seedlings were used as the minimum sample in these experiments. Petioles ...

Notes: [Auszug] During an investigation of the mechanism of direct haemagglutination in vibrios, five El Tor strains and four classical V. cholerae strains were serially subcultured in heart extract nutrient agar and nutrient broth at 37 C. After every sixth passage, the haemagglutinating activity and ...

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Stärke isoliert aus Wasser Kastanie (Trapa Bispinosa Roxb) wurde in Amylose und Amylopektin mit konventioneller Methodik fraktioniert. An beiden, dem Amylose-Jod und Amylopektin-Jod-Komplex wurden spektrometrische Diagramme aufgenommen. Auch über die Kinetik des Abbaues dieser Komplexe wird berichtet.
Notes: Summary Starch isolated from water-chestnut (Trapa Bispinosa Roxb) was fractionated into amylose and amylopectin by conventional method. Spectrophotometric studies have been carried on each of amyloseiodine and amylopectin-iodine complex. The kinetics of the decomposition of these complexes have also been reported.

Notes: Abstract The effect of the Y-chromosome on the sexcombs in the legs ofDrosophila melanogaster has been examined in four different genotypes, viz., Oregon R+,y, sx andPc-Scx. For this purpose, various Y-chromosome-fragments (YL and YS) and one or two XO conditions have been used. The results of this investigation show that both long (YL) and short (YS) arms of the Y-chromosome tend to increase the teeth number in the sexcomb of the first legs in all genotypes excepty. The XO-1 condition, derived by the loss of one X, appears to decrease it; the XO-2, resulting from the fertilization of an X-bearing ovum by a nullo-Y sperm, appears to show an increased teeth number or no effect at all. The effect of Y-fragments is least in the case ofy and maximum insx. The various Y-fragments used also show a parallel, though inversely related, effect on the production of intermediate bristles insx. These Y-fragments show an opposite effect on the sexcombs of the second and third legs of thePc-Scx genotype. Here the mean numbers of teeth are significantly reduced in all cases as compared to those in XY;Pc-Scx/++ genotype. The different Y-fragments behave differently in their effect on sexcomb pattern. It has been suggested that secondary modifiers may be present in association with different genotypes as well as in the Y, which are required to maintain a morphodynamic equilibrium in pattern formation.

Description / Table of Contents: An Polymethylmethacrylaten, durch Redoxinitiierung in wäßriger Lösung dargestellt, wurden kolorimetrische Endgruppenbestimmungen durchgeführt.
Notes: Poly(methyl methacrylate) samples obtained by aqueous redox initiation with reducing sulfoxy compounds such as HSO3-, SO2-3, S2O2-3, S2O2-4, and S2O2-5 in conjunction with different activators are analysed for endgroup content by the application of dye techniques, and limiting conditions for polymerization are reported in specific cases. Activators used are: (a) metal ions such as Cu2+, Fe3+, and Ag+ ion; (b) KCIO3 and KBrO3; (c) H2O2, and (d) oxygen. Endgroups incorporated are only nonhydrolysable sulfoxy in case of (a) and (b), and both nonhydrolysable sulfoxy and hydroxyl in case of (c) and (d).
