Notizen: Abstract Cholangitis after biliary reconstruction for congenital biliary atresia is a troublesome postoperative complication. In order to clarify its mechanism and the changes in intestinal movement after biliary reconstruction by Roux-en-Y anastomosis, we performed electromyographic (EMG) studies of the motility of the reconstructed intestine in dogs. Monitoring the basic electrical rhythm (BER) and migrating myoelectric complexes (MMC), EMG analysis was carried out. As most of the Y-loop MMCs were propagated smoothly to the anal side, according to the continuity of the intestine, the intestinal contents were transported without stagnation. These intestinal movements appear to be useful as a biliary drainage route and to prevent ascending cholangitis. A comparison of short- and long-term intestinal motility after biliary reconstruction showed adaptation of the intestinal movement following the procedure. The outflow of bile appeared to accelerate intestinal motility because of prolongation of the MMC interval in the duodenum and oral jejunum without bile flow.

Notizen: Summary 1. In rabbits intravenously injected with tetanus toxin (2×105 mouse LD50), a rhythmic electrical activity was recorded in the cerebellum and in the spinal cord. 2. The motor system appears to be strongly involved in this event, since the ventral roots displayed rhythmic activity correlated to the spinal cord rhythm. Extracellular recordings showed the same rhythmic discharge pattern in many alpha- and gamma-motoneurons and Renshaw cells of hindlimb flexor and extensor muscles. 3. Upon high spinalization at C1, the rhythm could be recorded in the cerebellum but no longer in the spinal cord. Cooling of the cerebellar surface suppressed the rhythm in both structures. 4. The data are discussed under the current view, that generalized tetanus is a special form of local tetanus. 5. We suggest that the rhythmic activity is of supraspinal origin and is transmitted to alpha- and gamma-motoneurons of both the flexor and extensor motor systems.

Notizen: Summary Tetanus toxin was injected at various doses (0.1–10,000 mouse MLD/kg) into the gastrocnemius muscle of the left hind leg of the cat. The relative excitability of the monosynaptic reflex (MSR) was increased in the very early period of the intoxication decreased in the later period, during which the MSR of the gastrocnemius was either partially or totally depressed at doses as low as 10 mouse MLD/kg.

Notizen: Summary The experiments were performed on 37 intercollicularly decerebrate cats. The triceps surae muscle was subjected to trapezoidal stretches of 10 mm/s or 2 mm/s over a length of 14 mm. The reflex arc was left partially or fully intact. The effect of diazepam given intravenously on the discharge frequencies of group Ia afferent fibres from muscle spindles in the belly of the triceps surae muscle was studied. Diazepam depressed both the dynamic and the static gamma motor responses. When gamma motor fibres were selectively blocked by procaine a parallel shift of the tension-extension curve was observed. From comparison of the effect of procaine and diazepam on the phasic and static responses of the muscle spindle it was concluded that directly after the injection of diazepam the gamma motor activity was completely abolished at a dose as low as 0.1 mg/kg whereas the alpha motor system was only partly depressed even at higher doses. Differences in the effect of diazepam on the dynamic and static gamma system respectively, could not be found.
