Notizen: Abstract Background: Reed–Sternberg cells of Hodgkin's disease express CD30and CD40 receptors. The ligands for these receptors have been reported tohave pleiotropic biologic activities in vitro, including induction of celldeath. Expression of the ligands for these receptors in lymph nodes involvedwith Hodgkin's disease is not known. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine CD30 ligand (L) andCD40L expression in lymph nodes of patients with Hodgkin's disease, and tostudy CD30L expression on nodal lymphocyte subsets. Materials and methods: CD30L expression on subsets of lymphocytes of fivelymph nodes involved with Hodgkin's disease was determined by two-colorFACScan. Messenger RNA expression of CD30L and CD40L was determined by thereverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method performed onseven specimens involved with Hodgkin's disease (five lymph nodes and twospleens). Results: Four of seven specimens (57%) contained cells thatexpressed CD30L mRNA and three specimens (43%) containedCD40L-expressing cells. The mean percentage of nodal lymphocytes expressingCD30L surface protein was ≤20%. Conclusion: Hodgkin's disease lymph nodes and spleens frequently lackCD30L- and CD40L-expressing cells, and when CD30L is expressed, it is usuallydetected on few numbers of lymphocytes. The differences in the level ofexpression of these ligands in Hodgkin's disease lymph nodes may be relatedto the disease's clinical behavior.

Notizen: Abstract The Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ system samples doped with Sn on Cu sites were synthesized. Resistivity temperature dependence, X-ray powder diffraction and photoemission experiments have been performed. Suppression of superconductivity in the Sn-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ system has been observed. X-ray photoemission measurements show that Sn ion enters the lattice. Our results reveal that Sn ions are mostly in bivalent states.

Notizen: Abstract The Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ system samples doped with Pr on Ca sites were synthesized. Resistivity temperature dependence, X-ray powder diffraction, and photoemission experiments have been performed. Both X-ray diffraction and photoemission measurements show that Pr ion enters the lattice with a valence higher than 3+, which supports the hole-filling mechanism of the suppression of superconductivity.

Notizen: Abstract Twenty-five partial amphiploids (2n=8x=56), which were derived from hybrids of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) with either Thinopyrum ponticum (Podpera) Liu & Wang, Th. intermedium (Host) Barkworth & D. Dewey, or Th. junceum (L.) A. Löve, were assayed for resistance to BYDV serotype PAV by slot-blot hybridization with viral cDNA of a partial coat protein gene. Three immune lines were found among seven partial amphiploids involving Th. ponticum. Seven highly resistant lines were found in ten partial amphiploids involving Th. intermedium. None of eight partial amphiploids or 13 addition lines of Chinese Spring –Th. junceum were resistant to BYDV. Genomic in situ hybridization demonstrated that all of the resistant partial amphiploids, except TAF46, carried an alien genome most closely related to St, whether it was derived from Th. ponticum or Th. intermedium. The two partial amphiploids carrying an intact E genome of Th. ponticum are very susceptible to BYDV-PAV. In TAF46, which contains three pairs of St- and four pairs of E-genome chromosomes, the gene for BYDV resistance has been located to a modified 7St chromosome in the addition line L1. This indicates that BYDV resistance in perennial polyploid parents, i.e., Th. ponticum and Th. intermedium, of these partial amphiploids is probably controlled by a gene(s) located on the St-genome chromosome(s).

The experiment results show that Pr ions entered the lattice and chemical environment plays a major role in the shift of core-level spectra and valence-band spectra.
