    Differential effects of diazepam on anxiety in streptozotocin induced diabetic and non-diabetic rats (1998)

    Notizen: Abstract  The anxiolytic activity of diazepam (DZP) (0.25–1 mg/kg) was investigated in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic adult Charles Foster albino rats of either sex. Diabetes was induced by injecting STZ IP (50 mg/kg; in citrate buffer, pH 4.5). Experiments were performed 72 h later. The rats were subjected to various anxiety paradigms, including the open-field exploratory behaviour, elevated plus maze and elevated zero maze behaviours and the social interaction tests. In addition, rat brain tribulin activity was also assessed as a biochemical marker of anxiety. The results indicate that diabetic rats showed significantly more anxiogenic activity in comparison to non-diabetic rats on open-field, elevated plus maze, zero maze and social interaction tests. In diabetic rats, brain tribulin activity (MAO-A inhibitory component) was significantly increased. DZP dose dependently produced anxiolytic activity on the various behavioural parameters in non-diabetic rats. DZP (0.5 and 1 mg/kg) partially reversed the anxiogenic behaviour of STZ diabetic rats in elevated plus maze and zero maze tests. However, in open field behaviour and social interaction tests significant anxiolytic activity was observed only at a higher dose of DZP (1 mg/kg). The findings indicate that STZ-induced diabetic rats exhibited augmented anxiety on various experimental paradigms and that the anxiolytic effect of diazepam was less marked in diabetic rats as compared to their euglycaemic counterparts.

    Notizen: Summary Post-burn contracture involving the dorsum of the hand with hyperextension and volar subluxation of the metacarpophalangeal joints of the fingers plus adduction contracture of the thumb is a crippling disability. Adequate release of such contractures leaves raw areas on the dorsum of the hand, forgers and in the first web space. Fasciocutaneous flaps from the contralateral chest wall (the lateral thoracic flap and the subaxillary flap) have been used in eight patients. The comfortable fixation position, the non-hairy nature of the flaps, the excellent vascularity and a concealed donor site, which can often be primarily closed, make these flaps attractive for the defects. Within a follow-up period of five to twelve months, all the patients returned to their previous vocation.

    Notizen: Summary A modified Type B fasciocutaneous flap can be safely raised in the lateral thoracic region due to its rich vascularisation. This paper described the anatomical basis for such a flap, based on 18 dissections in 9 cadavers. The multiple direct cutaneous perforators which supply this region were found to be fairly constant and of adequate calibre to sustain a fasciocutaneous flap.

    Notizen: Summary The endogenous monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (tribulin) activity of rat brain was investigated during the course of carrageenan induced acute paw inflammation. The increase in rat brain tribulin activity closely paralleled the time course intensity of the inflammation. The study indicates that, like externally induced stress, internal stress caused by the inflammation induced hyper algesia can also induce augmented brain tribulin activity. The findings, thus, support the hypothesis that tribulin may function as an endogenous endocoid marker of stress.

    Notizen: Indium(III) and tin(IV) thiocarboxylates were prepared and characterized on the basis of their IR, 13C- and 19Sn-NMR data. Indium tris(thiobenzoate) (1) decomposes into a sulfido complex In (S)[S(O)CPh] (2a). The corresponding tris(thioacetate) In[S(O)CMe]3 is thermally too unstable to be isolated. The anionic tetrakis complex [Et3NH]{In[S(O)CPh]4} (3) was characterized by X-ray crystallography which revealed a distorted tetrahedral coordination at the In atom. X-ray diffraction analysis of the complexes BuSn[S(O)CPh]3 (4) and Cl2Sn[S(O)CPh]2 (7) showed distorted tetrahedral and cis-octahedral structures, respectively.

    Notizen: Morphological studies are reported for a thermotropic liquid crystalline polyester. Small angle light scattering studies were carried out as a function of temperature using Hv and Vv polarization with photographic as well as photometric techniques. No scattering was observed from a thin film cast from a dilute solution of the polymer in a highly volatile solvent. When the film was heated, scattering of light was observed above the glass transition temperature of the polyester. The scattering was found to be azimuthally dependent with Vv intensities being much higher than the corresponding Hv intensities. The size of the morphological features responsible for SALS patterns were calculated and were found not to change significantly with temperature ranging from glass transition temperature to the solid-nematic transition temperature of the polyester. The WAXS pattern of solution cast polymer was representative of an amorphous structure. Solution cast films heat treated under various conditions (all above the Tg of the polymer) contained crystalline as well as amorphous structures. The maximum apparent crystallinity for annealed samples was of the order of 30%.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Tetra-o-tolylzinn wurde in 45proz. Ausbeute mit Hilfe der Wurtz-Reaktion (Petroläther als Lösungsmittel; Hg als Katalysator) dargestellt. Durch Jodierung wurden daraus Tri-o-tolylzinnjodid und Di-o-tolylzinndijodid erhalten; ferner gelang die Darstellung von Tri-o-tolylzinnfluorid.
    Notizen: Tetra-o-tolyltin has been prepared in 45% yield for the first time by Wurtz reaction. Optimum yield is obtained using pet-ether (b. p. 65-85) as solvent and small amounts of mercury as catalyst. A mechanism for the role of mercury in the reaction is suggested. Tri-o-tolyltin iodide and hitherto unknown di o-tolyltin di-iodide have been prepared in 65% and 55% yields respectively by controlled iodination of the compound. Tri o-tolyltin fluoride has also been synthesised for the first time in almost quantitative yield.
