Notizen: Abstract Results of a search for high-spin isomers in W and Os nuclei withN=104–107 are presented. Targets of48Ca and48, 50Ti are bombarded with a pulsed136Xe beam, and delayed gamma-radiation is detected by an array of NaI- and Ge-detectors. Several new isomers, with spin values up to ∼22h, are found in178,180W and180, 182, 183Os. Markedly different decay patterns and hindrance factors are found in the Os isotopes as compared to the expectations based on theK-selection rule valid for axially symmetric nuclei. The findings are ascribed to the onset of triaxial distortions.

Notizen: Abstract Eighteen children classified in four diagnostic groups — Infantile Autism, Full Syndrome Present (IA), Infantile Autism, Residual State (IA-R), Hyperkinetic Syndrome (HYPER), and Mental Retardation (MR) — were mutually compared on the basis of their behavior in a free child-adult interaction. An ethological analysis of 80 behavioral elements was performed, aiming at describing this interaction in detail. The analysis demonstrated that the autistic children with full syndrome present stayed closer to the adult and that they were more inclined to decrease the interpersonal distance than the children in the three other groups. Moreover, this group was often engaged in bodily contact with the adult. However, their facial orientation towards the adult was poorly developed, in fact they usually turned away their faces. Visual attention to the adult and manipulated objects was relatively low. Hand and head gestures were rare, but facial expressions occurred very frequently. Speech was seriously impaired, but probably counterbalanced by nonarticulated sounds. Finally, the adult seemed to have modified her behavior on a par with the child she was interacting with. From a behavioral point of view the autistic group with full syndrome present was clearly distinguishable from the three comparison groups, including the group with residual state autism.

Notizen: An analytical correction method is proposed to eliminate the problems resulting from numerical Fourier transformation of functions with a broad background. The method incorporates the analytically known or observed asymptotic behaviour into the numerical procedure. The applicability and high accuracy of the background correction method is illustrated by application to the analysis of reflected electron energy-loss spectra.

Notizen: The accuracy by which an unknown concentration profile can be found by analysis of XPS spectra is investigated theoretically by analytical and numerical techniques. The problem of determining the profile is reformulated as an optimization problem. By use of analytical techniques we obtain qualitative statements about the depth resolution and we derive fundamental relationships between the different parameters that indicate their relative importance. In order to illustrate the various dependencies of the variability of the model parameters, we derive analytical expressions for the standard errors of the model parameters for two simple models: a dalta layer and an exponentially decreasing profile. Furthermore, the complete probability distribution of the model parameters for a rectangular model is investigated numerically.

Notizen: It is shown that the accuracy by which a concentration-depth profile can be estimated from the inelastic background of an XPS spectrum is dramatically improved by using two-dimensional (2D) data. The energy loss distribution of the photoelectrons for several values of the detection angle, or the energy of the excitation source, are treated as a single 2D data set. The resolution of the depth profile estimated from this set is far better than can be obtained from any single XPS spectrum.
