Notizen: Summary A series of epoxy acrylate emulsions were prepared with several surfactants ranging from HLB 12 to 14 at 40°C. For epoxy acrylate emulsion, additives and conditions were established among factors: HLB value of emulsion, agitation speed, water dropping speed, and dropping amount of the deionized water. For emulsion polymereization with water soluble initiator KPS, emulsion was broken during polymerization, because interfacial complex formed by association of surfactant with co-surfactants stabilizing emulsion was weakened by interpenetration of radicals formed at aqueous. Accordingly, the polymerization of epoxy acrylate emulsion was carried out by using oil soluble initiator, AIBN, and the conversion changes with initiator concentration and HLB values were investigated.

Notizen: Summary Polyurethane hydro-xerogels derived from PEG-modified urethane acrylates (PMUA), containing hydrophilic segment (polyoxyethylene groups) and hydrophobic segment at the same molecule, were prepared and their swelling behaviors were evaluated. Hydro-xerogels of PMUA were prepared using gelation process of PMUA emulsions. these gels could be swelled at both of water and dioxane, moreover, the swelling ratio of these gels at dioxane and water were changed with composition ratio of water to PMUA in the preparation of gel. In aqueous medium, swelling ratio of these gels increased with the increase in composition ratio of water to PMUA. However, in organic medium (Dioxane), swelling ratio decreased as the composition ratio of water increased. Additionally, as the reaction molar ratio of PEG to 2-HEMA increased, swelling ratio of gels at water increased. These results were due to microstructure of PMUA gels, which was formed by phase separation between hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments in the course of gelation.

Notizen: Surface roughness is main source of error in instrumented microindentation when it is notnegligible relative to the indentation depth. The effect of a rough surface on the results ofinstrumented microindentation testing using spherical indenter was analyzed by applying the contactdepth model, which takes surface roughness into account. Improved variations in hardness andYoung’s modulus were shown for W and Ni when the results were analyzed by this rough-surfacemodel, while these values were underestimated with increasing surface roughness when analyzed bythe flat-surface model. The deformation state of asperities underneath spherical indenter was alsodiscussed

Notizen: Amorphous silicon carbide (a-SiC) films were deposited using molecular dynamicssimulations employing the Tersoff potential. The structure and intrinsic stress of a-SiC films changeddramatically with changes in such principal deposition process parameters as substrate temperatureand incident energy. Changes in structure and intrinsic stress with deposition process parameters were analyzed

Notizen: We tried to apply the nanoindentation technique to yield strength characterization bymodifying a previous research. Although the yield strength determining technique developed byKramer et al. has been successfully demonstrated for large scale indentations on bulky metals, itsapplicability is still doubtful to nanoscale indentations on thin films with severe roughness, anisotropy, and interfacial constraint. In order to overcome these problems, we combined thenanoindentation technique with a three-dimensional indent visualization technique in this study.Nanoindentation tests were performed for Au and TiN thin films and their corresponding indentswere scanned by using an atomic force microscope. From the three-dimensional pile-upmorphology, a circular pile-up boundary was measured and input into the yield strength formulationas an effective yielded zone radius. The yield strengths calculated were directly compared withthose from the microtensile test

Notizen: Flow properties and stress state are indispensable factors for safety assessment ofstructural materials in operation, which were evaluated using instrumented indentation tests (IITs).Flow properties were obtained by defining representative stress and strain, and IIT results for 10steel materials were discussed by comparing with those from uniaxial tensile tests. The indentationload-depth curve is significantly affected by the presence of residual stress, and the stress-inducedload change was converted to a quantitative stress value. The stress state of a friction stir-weldedjoint of API X80 steel was evaluated and compared with that measured by energy-dispersive X-raydiffraction

Notizen: Abstract. Water-dispersible UV-curable urethane acrylate emulsions were prepared with polyethylene glycol (PEG)-modified urethane acrylates (PMUA), containing terminal hydrophilic polyoxyethylene chains. To improve physical properties of PMUA, epoxy acrylate (EA) having high thermal stability and hardness, was mixed with five kinds of PMUA containing different chain lengths of polyoxyethylene (POE). For PMUA/EA mixtures, the composition ratio of EA to PMUA and the chain length of POE greatly influenced the size of droplets of emulsions and the physical properties of their cured films. At higher EA to PMUA ratio, the physical properties decreased, which was due to phase separation between EA and PMUA. Phase separation was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy.

Notizen: Abstract. New type of amphiphilic pH-sensitive polyurethane networks, derived from the mixture of polyethylene glycol-modified urethane acrylates (PMUA) and urethane acrylate anionomer (UAA), were prepared and their swelling behaviors were evaluated. Three kinds of polymerization methods were employed in the synthesis of polyurethane networks. Polyurethane networks prepared by a process similar to that of soap-free emulsion polymerization (UAHG) showed the highest swelling ratio and pH-sensitivity. Additionally, four kinds of UAHG gels were prepared at different composition of UAA. As the composition ratio of UAA to PMUA increased, swelling of UAHG gels in alkali pH buffer solution and their pH-sensitivity greatly increased. Additionally, swelling of UAHG gels changed reversibly with the change of pH.

Notizen: In order to prepare the soap-free emulsion of urethane acrylates, poly(ethylene glycol)-modified urethane acrylates (PMUA), containing poly(oxyethylene) chains as terminal groups, were synthesized by reaction of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with residual isocyanate groups. The size of the droplets of PMUA emulsions decreases as the molar ratio of PEG to 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) increases. The interfacial activity of PMUA was confirmed by the measurement of the adsorption isotherm at the water/benzene interface. The chain length of poly(oxyethylene) and the type of polyol (PTMG, PPG) affects significantly the size of the droplets and the stability of the PMUA emulsions.

Notizen: The permeation of riboflavin and insulin through poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and chitosan blend membrane was conducted. The permeability coefficients of both solutes through the crosslinked PVA and chitosan blend membrane were in the order of 10-6-10-7 cm3 cm/cm2s and showed a pH dependence. The pH-dependent permeation behavior was discussed in terms of water content and water structure inside of the swollen membrane. Riboflavin and insulin were presumed to permeate through the free water region in the swollen blend membrane. The DSC thermograms of these membranes indicated that the content of free water and the amount of freezing bound water increased with the water content in the membrane. The greater permeation rate of solutes in acidic solution rather than in neutral solution was due to an increase in both water content and the amount of free water and freezing bound water.
