    Notes: We have fabricated Josephson field-effect transistors based on YBa2Cu3O7−δ bicrystal grain-boundary junctions (GBJs) and epitaxial SrTiO3 films as gate insulators. The SrTiO3 gate insulator shows high products of the breakdown field Ebd and the dielectric constant εr up to Ebdεr=1.3×1010 V/m allowing measurements over a wide range of applied gate electric-field Eg. The critical current Ic of the GBJs is found to depend highly nonlinear on Eg. Remarkably, the measured Ic(Eg) are very similar to the εr(Eg) curves. This strongly suggests that the observed electric-field effect is not due to a field-induced change in carrier concentration but is related to the dielectric properties of the SrTiO3 gate insulator. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: This study was initiated to find a method to correct the phenotypic yield for the yield decreasing influence of disease infection (= DC-yield potential). The inter-cultivar regressions of yield vs. disease infection were calculated in official trials in Germany and Austria with spring barley in 1983 and 1984 and with winter barley in 1996, 1997 and 1998, respectively. The residual of a genotype was interpreted as a measure of its DC-yield potential. The cultivar range of the DC-yield potential was 58.3% and 59.5% of the phenotypic yield range and the heritability of the residuals was about 10% below that of yield. In the spring barley experiments with and without fungicides the individual residual remained approximately constant even when the mildew infection changed remarkably, suggesting a useful predictability of individual yield performance when the degree of infection is changed either by environment, pathotype, or resistance genes.

    Notes: Summary Results are described of TSD- and TSP-measurements of Poly (Phenylquinoxaline) in dependence on the degree of annealing and on the polarizing field strength. Seven relaxations regions are investigated and discussed. Electronic and ionic space charge regions are observed and discussed in detail. It is shown that dielectric losses in polymers do not result from dipolar processes only, but also from translational motion of charge carriers.

    Notes: Summary In 1951, a line of the Austrian barley variety Vollkorn (a brewing barley widely grown in Lower Austria) was exposed to X-rays with a view to selecting mildew resistant mutants. Mildew infection was restricted to X2-ear progenies. In the X3-generation one mutant (indicated No. 3502/53) was found to be resistant to the mildew races A1, B, C, D, F and some other mutants showed a moderate resistance to the races A and B. Field trials proved that there was a correlation between the susceptibility to mildew and lodging. Mutant lines with high yields (127% of mother line) combined a good mildew resistance with a good resistance to lodging. The type of resistance induced and its interitance in various mutants is under investigation.

    Description / Table of Contents: The α-E- and α-T-characteristics are measured for some polyphenylquinoxalines, for polyethylenterephthalate and polyimide. These characteristics cannot be linearised in all parts of the lg α-E- and lg \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \alpha {\rm - }\sqrt E $\end{document}-diagram respectively. A model of charge carrier transport is discussed based on the POOLE-FRENKEL-effect. A relation is given to calculate the electric conductivity in dependence on the hopping distance, the field strength, the dielectric constant and the energetic depth of the centres. The calculated curves α = α(E) are in good agreement with experimental data. The spatial density of the centres and their energetic depth are determined.

Die gefundenen Kurven erlauben keine durchgängige Linearisierung im lg σ-E- bzw. lg \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \alpha {\rm - }\sqrt E $\end{document}-Diagramm. Ein Leitungsmodell auf der Basis des POOLE-FRENKEL-Effektes wird diskutiert. Unter plausiblen Annahmen gelingt es, eine Beziehung zur Berechnung der elektrischen Leitfähigkeit σ in Abhängigkeit vom Zentrenabstand, von der elektrischen Feldstärke, der Dielektrizitätskonstanten und von der Zentrentiefe zu gewinnen. Der berechnete Verlauf von σ = f(E) stimmt mit den experimentell gewonnenen Charakteristiken überein. Räumliche Zentrendichte und energetische Tiefe werden bestimmt.

    Description / Table of Contents: Five techniques which provide without any parallel investigations the drift mobility in technically interesting polymers are described. The time-of-flight method takes a central place by which the mobility values are orders of magnitude higher than that obtained by most of the other techniques. Only to the injection-current method there is a good coincidence. The causes for the large differences in the values of mobilities are discussed.
    Notes: An einer Reihe technisch interessanter Polymere werden fünf Meßverfahren erprobt, die ohne weitere Paralleluntersuchungen zur Driftbeweglichkeit führen. Dabei nimmt die Transitmethode einen zentralen Platz ein, bei der die gemessenen Beweglichkeitswerte um Größenordnungen höher liegen als bei den meisten Verfahren. Lediglich mit der Injektionsstrommethode besteht eine gute Übereinstimmung. Die Ursachen für die großen Beweglichkeitsunterschiede werden diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Combined measurements of thermo-voltage and electric conductivity in polyphenylquinoxalines are presented. It is shown that between thermal activation energy WT and the absolute value aα of the rise of thermoelectric power vs. reciprocal temperature the relation WT≧eaα is valid if a charge carrier transport over localized states is accepted. The measurements show, however, the relation WT≪eaα. This result is in good agreement with our assumption of a charge transport over localized states. Furthermore, the measurements show that holes or positive ions are the charge carriers.
    Notes: Kombinierte Thermospannungs- und Leitfähigkeitsuntersuchungen an Polyphenylchinoxalinen werden vorgestellt. Es wird gezeigt, daß zwischen der thermischen Aktivierungsenergie WT und dem Absolutbetrag aα des Anstieges der Thermokraft über der reziproken Temperatur bei Annahme eines Ladungstransportes über delokalisierte Zustände die Beziehung WT ≧ eaα gilt. Die Messungen führen jedoch zum Ergebnis WT ≪ eaα und untermauern damit unsere Auffassung, daß der Ladungstransport in Polyphenylchinoxalinen über lokalisierte Zentren erfolgt. Sie zeigen weiter, daß die Stromträger Defektelektronen oder positive Ionen sind.
