Description / Table of Contents:
The key materials which are required for the synthesis of vitamin A (C20-compound), containing 15, 16 and 17 carbon atoms, are prepared by means of organo-metallic reactions via hydroxy compounds, lactones and imidolactones; by the study of the principles of synthesis, already known in literature, as well as by the introduction of new reaction steps it was possible to show how to avoid the retro-rearrangement which offers in such syntheses and which finally causes the formation of biologically inactive compounds. Neo-vitamin A acid (2-cis-vitamin A-acid) was prepared according to C15+C5 = C20; further, the authors succeeded for the first time in synthesizing an acetylene hydrocarbon free of retro-isomers, with which it was possible to synthesize all-trans-vitamin A, according to C16+C4 = C20. This research resulted not only in a series of indications for better understanding of the course of reaction, but they also allowed a clarification of contradictions which sometimes wee found in literature.
Notes:
