    Description / Table of Contents: Organic Sulfur Compounds, LXI. Reactions of Diaryldiazoethanes with O. O' -Dialkylxanthogenic Acid AnhydridesDiaryldiazomethanes 1 and xanthogenic acid anhydrides 2 react at room temperature to give thiiranes 3 (see (1)), which on heating rearrange quantitatively according to (4) into derivatives of α-thio-diarylthionacetic acid (6a and 6b). The action of 9-diazoxanthene (1c) on 2 at room temperature does not lead to the expected episulfides (thiiranes); instead, the rearranged products 11 are formed (see (5)). The thiiranes 3 are converted to the corresponding ethylenes 4 by the action of copper powder or triphenylphosphine. Pyrolysis of ethylene 4a yields the 1.3-dithietane(1.3-dithia-cyclobutane) derivative 5, also obtained by the reduction of 4a and 4b with sodium boron hydride followed by pyrolysis (see (3)).
    Notes: Diaryldiazomethane 1 liefern mit Xanthogensäureanhydriden 2 bei Raumtemp. Thiirane 3, die sich in der Wärme quantitativ in Derivate der α-Mercapto-diarylthionessigsäure (6 a und 6 b) umlagern (vgl. (4) ). Die Einwirkung von 9-Diazo-xanthen (1c) auf 2 bei Raumtemp. Liefert jedoch nicht die erwarteten Thiirane, sondern ihre Umlagerungsprodukte 11 (vgl. (5) ). Die Thiirane 3 liefern die entsprechenden Äthylene 4 bei Behandlung mit Kupferpulver oder Triphenylphosphin. Pyrolyse des Äthylens 4a ergibt das 1.3-Dithietan(1.3-Dithia-cyclo-butan)-Derivat 5, das auch bei der Reduktion von 4a und 4b mit Natriumborhydrid und darauffolgender Pyrolyse entsteht (vgl. (3)).
