In contrast to hexa-m-phenylene (6) 4,4‴,6,6‴-tetraazahexa-m-phenylene (4) is planar. This is explained by less Pitzer strain in the outer sphere of 4. From 4 a tetranitro derivative (7c) was obtained.

Die Synthese der Titelverbindungen 4 und 9 wird beschrieben. Im Gegensatz zum bekannten Hexa-m-phenylen (6) ist 4,4‴,6,6‴-Tetraazahexa-m-phenylen (4) planar. Dies wird auf geringere Pitzer-Spannung in der äußeren Sphäre von 4 zurückgeführt. Von 4 wurde eine Tetranitroverbindung (7c) erhalten.
