Summary The activity of the enzymes LDH, MDH, GOT and GPT were tested at the time of birth. 1. The activities of the LDH, MDH and GOT were found higher than in a control group of healthy adults. As reasons therefore we discussed: a) Mechanical injury and hypoxia during delivery. b) A greater permeability of membranes of the newborn which, in addition, may also be more susceptible to injuries. c) An increased bloodcell elimination. d) The permeation of enzymes of the placenta into the circulation of the child. 2. The GPT activity was lower in the group of the newborn than in the control group. We would attribute this to the functional capacity of the liver of the newborn child.

Zusammenfassung Bei 200 Neugeborenen wurde zum Zeitpunkt der Geburt die Aktivität der Enzyme LDH, MDH, GOT und GPT untersucht. 1. Die Verteilung der Aktivitäten der LDH, MDH und GOT sind gegenüber der Erwachsenenvergleichsgruppe deutlich erhöht. Als Gründe hierfür werden diskutiert: a) mechanisch hypoxydotische Schädigungen bei der Geburt, b) eine allgemein erhöhte Membranpermeabilität beim Neugeborenen, die gegenüber Schädigungen empfindlicher ist, c) die vermehrte Blutmauserung und d) der Übertritt von Placentarenzymen in den Kreislauf des Kindes. 2. Die GPT-Aktivität ist im Vergleich zum Erwachsenenkollektiv erniedrigt. Dies möchten wir mit der Ausnahmesituation der Leber beim Neugeborenen erklären, wodurch ein im Leben wohl einmaliger Modellfall vorliegt.
