Conclusions 1) Sixty percent of low and moderate risk cardiac surgery patients could be succesfully extubated within 11 h of operation. 2) As a result length-of-stay in ICU was reduced and the percentage of patients discharged within 24 h was increased. 3) There was no increase in postoperative morbidity.
