Summary Two different therapists treated two patients with anxiety symptoms using short-term psychodynamic therapy. The transcribed and coded verbatim protocols were evaluated by process analysis, looking in particular at complex interactions. For content analysis, specifically those text passages where therapist and/or patient were discussing the time-limitation of therapy were selected. Both therapies were successful according to clinical criteria. The psychotherapeutic-technical success and failure criteria were differentiated according in the model of the Structural Analysis of Social Behavior (SASB) and related to patients’ cyclic maladaptive patterns (CMP). The use of the SASB method and its consequences for psychotherapeutic training are discussed.

Zusammenfassung Zwei Therapeuten führten psychoanalytische Kurzzeitpsychotherapien bei zwei Patientinnen mit Angstsymptomatik durch. Die transkribierten und kodierten Texte wurden prozeßanalytisch ausgewertet, komplexe Interaktionen besonders berücksichtigt. Die inhaltsanalytische Untersuchung widmete sich besonders jenen Textpassagen, in denen Therapeut und/oder Patientin jeweils die zeitliche Begrenztheit der Therapie thematisierten. Die gemäß dem Modell der Strukturalen Analyse Sozialen Verhaltens (SASB) differenzierten psychotherapeutisch-technischen Erfolgs- und Mißerfolgskriterien treten für beide – nach klinischen Kriterien – erfolgreichen Therapien in Beziehung zu den zyklisch maladaptiven Mustern (CMP) beider Patientinnen. Die Anwendung der SASB-Methode und deren Konsequenzen für die psychotherapeutische Weiterbildung werden diskutiert.
