Summary Cancers arising in Morgagni's ventricle are considered a specially insiduous form, which metastasizes early, grows hidden and is diagnosed late. At present the opinion is discussed that some cancers arise within a laryngocele and break through into the larynx secondarly. In order to clarify these questions step serial section investigations on nine typical ventricular cancers and three combinations of laryngocele and carcinoma have been carried out. The ventricular carcinomas showed themselves without exception to be vocal cord carcinomas, arising from the bottom of the ventricle at the superior arcuate line and growing into the ventricle. They are therefore special forms of glottic carcinomas with a preference of one growth direction. In the combination of laryngocele and carcinoma it could also be proved in all cases that the tumors didn't arise from the respiratory epithelium. The reason for the relatively frequent combination of laryngeal and carcinoma remains open.
