Zusammenfassung An Hühnerkeimscheiben wurde das Verhalten der Cholinesterase bei der Entstehung der Somiten und der Sklerotom-, Dermatom- und Myotombildung untersucht. 1. Das Mesoderm stellt als Ausgangspunkt der Somitenentstehung im Stadium 5 eine cholinesteraseaktive Zellschicht vor dem Primitivknoten dar. 2. Aus dieser Schicht richten sich die cholinesteraseaktiven Zellen zu den ersten Somiten auf. 3. Nach der Ausformung der Somiten verliert das Somitenmaterial seine Cholinesterase-Aktivität. 4. Die Cholinesterase-Aktivität tritt in der Bodenplatte der Somiten in den auswandernden Sklerotomzellen erneut auf. Etwas später zeichnet sich auch im Dermatom eine schwache Aktivität ab. 5. Bei der Ausbildung des Myotoms tritt in den Myoblasten eine Cholinesterase-Aktivität auf, die in der weiteren Entwicklung erhalten bleibt. Gleichzeitig läßt sich auch eine Aktivität in den sich bildenden Motoneuronen nachweisen.

Summary Investigations on the activity of choline esterase were carried out in chick germ discs during the formation of somites and the development of sclerotomes, dermatomes and myotomes. 1. As basis for the development of somites the mesoderm forms a choline esterase positive cell-layer in stage 5 cranial to the primitive node. 2. The choline esterase active cells of this layer form the first somites. 3. After the formation of somites choline esterase activity disappears. 4. Choline esterase activity appears again in the basal layer of somites out of which the sclerotome-cells migrate. Later on a slight choline esterase activity is to be found in the dermatome. 5. During the formation of the myotome the myoblasts show choline esterase activity which remains stable during the further development. At the same tune activity appears in the motoneurons.
