Notes: [Auszug] The temperature of structural transformation of Ag2S has been reported as 179 C in the bulk state and the transformed structure as body-centred cubic with lattice spacing a = 4.8898 Å. With the intention of studying the structural transformation of thin films of these alloys I have made an ...

Notes: Summary The critical concentrations, α, corresponding more negative peaks and concentrations required to just to remove the less negative peak,β, have been determined for a number of organic compounds, known to give tensammetric peaks. It is concluded that the values of α andβ, thus obtained, can be used successfully for comparing the surface activity of a series of closely related organic compounds in aqueous solution. When peak potential of less cathodic surfactant is close to the potential of more cathodic surfactants (whose surface activities are to be compared), the comparison for surface activity cannot be made by this method.

Notes: Abstract In this communication, the authors have analytically investigated the nonlinear and second order thermal diffusion of electrons in ionized gases, using the techniques of the kinetic theory; the temperature dependence of the electron density has been taken into account in contrast with the earlier workers.

Notes: Summary This paper is devoted to a study of the flow of a second-order fluid (flowing with a small mass rate of symmetrical radial outflow m, taken negative for a net radial inflow) over a finite rotating disc enclosed within a coaxial cylinderical casing. The effects of the second-order terms are observed to depend upon two dimensionless parameters τ1 and τ2. Maximum values ξ1 and ξ2 of the dimensionless radial distances at which there is no recirculation, for the cases of net radial outflow (m〉0) and net radial inflow (m〈0) respectively, decrease with an increase in the second-order effects [represented by T(=τ1+τ2)]. The velocities at ξ1 and ξ2 as well as at some other fixed radii have been calculated for different T and the associated phenomena of no-recirculation/recirculation discussed. The change in flow phenomena due to a reversal of the direction of net radial flow has also been studied. The moment on the rotating disc increases with T.

Notes: Summary The problem of heat transfer from an enclosed rotating disc has been considered. The effects of radial outflow and inflow on the temperature profile and the Nusselt numbers on the rotor and the stator have been investigated in regions of no recirculation and recirculation.

Notes: Abstract Structural transformation in thin films of binary alloys of 1st and 6th group elements, prepared by vacuum evaporation, has been studied by the author in detail by electron diffraction. The alloys chosen for the investigation were Ag2Te, Ag2Se, Ag2S, Cu2Te and Cu2Se. The study of thin films of these alloys revealed that there occurs a transformation in structure and on heating, the temperatures of transformation are higher compared to the alloys in the bulk state. It has also been observed that the temperatures of structural transformation during heating and cooling are different. No quantitative explanation of the result has been given and it is expected that detailed discussion of the results will be published later.

Notes: The kinetics of γ-radiation-induced free-radical polymerization of styrene were studied over the temperature range 0-50°C at radiation intensities of 9.5 × 104, 3.1 × 105, 4.0 × 105, and 1.0 × 106 rad/hr. The overall rate of polymerization was found to be proportional to the 0.44-0.49 power of radiation intensity, and the overall activation energy for the radiation-induced free-radical polymerization of styrene was 6.0-6.3 kcal/mole. Values of the kinetic constants, kp2/kt and ktrm/kp, were calculated from the overall polymerization rates and the number-average molecular weights. Gelpermeation chromatography was used to determine the number-average molecular weight M̄n, the weight-average molecular weight M̄w, and the polydispersity ratio M̄w/M̄n, of the product polystyrene. The polydispersity ratios of the radiation-polymerized polystyrene were found to lie between 1.80 and 2.00. Significant differences were observed in the polydispersity ratios of chemically initiated and radiation-induced polystyrenes. The radiation chemical yield, G(styrene), was calculated to be 0.5-0.8.
