Notes: Summary The loosely attached decidual mucosa in the accessory horn of an uterus bicornis does not principally differ from the mucosa in the horn containing the fetus. Structural studies show that the regression of decidual endometrium to a endothelium-like lining is a hormone-dependent process such as stromagland dissociation. Mechanical factors due to expansion of the fetus certainly play no major role. Degenerative phenomena, such as focal necrosis, sclerosing edema, thrombosis, and inflammatory infiltrates probably appear more frequently in the accessory horn. They may be explained by more pronounced regional disturbances concerning perfusion and the inferior sealing of the uterine cavity.

Notes: Abstract We present a study of two-particle correlations in proton-emulsion nucleus reactions at 400 GeV. In particular the correlations at different nuclear excitations and different rapidity regions are treated. Positive correlations, depending on nuclear excitation, are observed in the rapidity region η〈1.5.

Notes: The transverse NMR relaxation times of hydrogen nuclei of water absorbed in white spruce sapwood [Picea glauca (Meunch) Voss] were measured for moisture contents in the range from 5 to 176%. The spin echo amplitudes resulting from the Carr-Purcell sequence decay nonexponentially suggesting the possibility of at least two different relaxation times for water in wood. A simplified structural model of the wood-water mixture is used to estimate the rates of chemical exchange at room temperature of hydrogen nuclei between various sites in the system. The high-resolution NMR line shape is discussed briefly in terms of this proposed model.

Notes: Summary Automation of an analytical technique can be accepted only when the whole procedure can be optimized. Examples amples are given how to optimize HPLC, and how misleading the classical data of theoretical plate height or plate numbers are. It is shown, how well the “abt concept” helps to optimize HPLC and to understand the results. HPTLC is too powerful for full automation due to its large sample throughput at an analytical separation speed of 24 samples in 30 seconds. HPLC and HPTLC are compared with respect to full or partial automation.

Notes: GC, including capillary GC, is rather inflexible, if a certain column length and stationary phase has been fixed for a given analytical problem. If the sample composition changes, one often has to change the column length and/or stationary phase, at least when something like optimum analytical conditions are needed. Temperature changes (or heating rates) can change the selectivity of a given column only within very limited ranges, due to the exponential effect of temperature on retention time. By serial coupling two chemically different capillaries, each run at another temperature, even the slightest changes of these two temperature values have a dramatic effect on the selectivity of the system for polar substances. We call this technique the SECAT mode of GC. Results are reported as retention index shifts, dependent on SECAT temperature data. This technique can in future easily be automated, thus enabling the analyst, for polar sample analysis, to adjust a given chroma-tographic system to his specific sample composition without touching the instrument.
