Notes: G-invariant metric compatible linear connections on homogeneous spaces G/H are investigated herein. For certain classes of homogeneous spaces the most general form of G-invariant metric and torsion are found.

Notes: Summary Tests on human and animal cadavers were carried out to investigate the early postmortem decay of the lymphocyte membrane. HLA-typing of cool-kept human cadavers can be performed within the first 36 h after death. Hereby, a possibility is obtained to determine HLA-ABC antigens of a deceased for hemogenetic or cornea transplantation purposes. The data obtained from animal experiments give evidence that the decay of the lymphocyte membrane follows a function of the Verhult's type. Using this function, it is possible to estimate the rate constant as a function of temperature.

Notes: Abstract VLF (Very Low Frequencies)-fields are damped electromagnetic waves of atmospheric origin (sferics). Sferics were artificially produced within a steel-built chamber; blood was drawn and platelet adhesiveness, platelet cyclic AMP and coagulation factors were measured in human volunteers placed within the chamber. Following frequency of the impulses of 10 Hz and a field strength of 400 mV/m increased platelet adhesiveness and decreased platelet cyclic AMP. Medication of the anti-platelet drugs were not effective at all, but the pretreatment of dipyridamole 75 mg combined with acetylsalicylic acid 100 mg blocked the sferics induced increment in platelet adhesiveness. Psychologically labile volunteers exhibited more marked effects of sferics upon platelet adhesiveness. Simulation of stressors upon platelets showed the same effect. The increase in platelet adhesiveness induced by all kind of stressors is not a risk factor of thrombosis in itself. Only if the vessel walls are damaged, e.g. by atherosclerotic plaques, or if the blood flow is reduced, e.g. by heart failure, then the increased platelet adhesiveness will cause thrombosis.

Notes: Abstract In order to find out whether digoxin therapy of nursing mothers might produce discomfort in suckling infants we have investigated the kinetics of the transfer of digoxin from plasma to milk in 11 nursing mothers. After intravenous or oral application of a single dose of 0.5 mg or 0.75 mg digoxin simultaneous serum, fore- and hindmilk samples were taken. Obviously, a rapid equilibrium occurred between the serum and the milk compartments and there was no difference between fore- and hindmilk. All three digoxin concentration profiles ran parallel with a milk to serum ratio of 0.6 to 0.7. The curves could best be fitted by the sum of two exponential functions. For predicting the digoxin intake into the suckling infant, simulations were carried out on the basis of two coupled compartment models. When the kinetic milk data as well as the kinetic data obtained in infants were fitted by this model it could be shown that even in the case of long half-lives only about 3% of the therapeutic drug levels were reached in the baby. Thus, one can conclude that digoxin accumulation to toxic concentrations should not occur in infants of women treated with appropriate doses of digoxin.

Notes: Abstract Formalism for the electroproduction of strange particles based on the one photon exchange approximation and the Feynman diagrams representation of hadron current is reviewed. Different photoproduction models are compared with available photo and electroproduction data. New experiments are proposed that may resolve existing uncertainties and inconsistencies. The formation of hypernuclei via kaon electroproduction is investigated theoretically and compared with other reactions involving purely hadronic processes.

Notes: Abstract It has long been recognized thatμLCR could profitably be done with the high intensity surface beam at LAMPF [1]. A spectrometer has been built that is matched to the LAMPF beam characteristics. The polarization information is obtained from a downstream array of counters while side counters, containing no polarization signal, monitor theμ + beam. Degraders select higher energy e+, thereby reducing rates and required counter segmentation while maintaining information content. We apply a ramped longitudinal field in addition to the static one to average over instabilities in theμ + beam. This field scan allows direct interpretation of data and does not require a prior estimate of the resonance structure of a sample. Flux coils monitor the applied ramp field and eddy-current induced fields. High average rate (2×107 μ +/s). good stability, and the versatile field scan permitted useful data to be collected from Cu, Al(Cu), Al, Si(Al), and polycrystalline Si targets.
