Notes: The synthesis of TiSi2 was obtained by continuous wave CO2-laser scanning of a two-layer structure of polycrystalline silicon and titanium on a silicon base. The characterization studies were performed by Rutherford backscattering, scanning electron microscopy, and four-point probe measurements. It was shown that the silicon cap layer prevents the oxidation of the titanium film and couples better the infrared laser radiation to the base due to its lower reflectivity, thus profitably enhancing processing efficiency.

Notes: Abstract The most general unconstrained superfield action for self-interactingN=2 matter hypermultiplets in analyticN=2 superspace is argued to produce a most generalN=2 hyper-Kähler σ-model after eliminating an infinite set of auxiliary fields. This suggests a new possibility of classifying hyper-Kähler metrics according to theN=2 analytic superfield self-interactions and provides an effective tool to compute these metrics explicitly. As the simplest example the U(2)-invariant quartic self-coupling of a singleq-hypermultiplet is analyzed and is shown to yield the familiar Taub-NUT metric. To see the geometric pattern directly in terms ofN=2 superfields we introduce a new on-shell representation ofq-hypermultiplets inN=2 harmonic superspace similar to the τ-description ofN=2 gauge theories. For the U(2)-example this formulation is checked to coincide with that by Sierra and Townsend.

Notes: Abstract Male Wistar rats fed for 60 days a glucose diet containing 17.5 mmol hexachlorobenzene/kg show a less pronounced increase in serum parameters and microsomal cytochrome P-450 concentration and a lower decrease in liver plasma membrane 5′-nucleotidase, K+, Na+- and Mg++-adenosine triphosphatase activities than the controls fed standard diet + hexachlorobenzene. Addition of 10% ethanol to the drinking water eliminates the “glucose effect”. The glucose diet and ethanol exert contrasting effects on microsomal enzyme induction and liver plasma membrane damage in hexachlorobenzene intoxication.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Thermische Isomerisierungsreaktionen in fester Phase wurden durch thermische Analyse, Thermomikroskopie, Röntgenbeugung und IR-Spektroskopie an CoPy2Cl2 (Py=Pyridin), Nien2(NO2)2 und Nien2(NCS)2 (en=Ethylendiamin) untersucht.
Notes: Abstract The thermal solid-state isomerizations of Copy2Cl2 (py=pyridine), Nien2(NO2)2 and Nien2(NCS)2 (en=ethylenediamine) were studied by thermal analysis, thermomicroscopy, X-ray diffraction and IR-spectroscopy. It was shown that the reactions proceed by nuclear formation and growth. The kinetic-morphological peculiarities of the processes suggest that the process-determining stage is a phase stage, i. e. structural transformation. The topography and kinetics of processes are therefore determined by the crystal structures of the initial material and the reaction product, and by the contact conditions at the interface. The stress relaxation processes affect the morphology of the products and the kinetics of the transformation.

Notes: Conclusions In an MR reactor performance tests of 16 fuel assemblies, with elements having essentially the same structure as standard VVÉR-100 fuel elements, were carried out. Tests of five more fuel assemblies are continuing. Of the 16 assemblies, 13 were studied in a hot laboratory. The tests in the MR, carried out at high loads and with a large number of transition processes, as well as the postreactor studies, indicated that fuel elements of the specified design (with initial helium pressures of 1.96–2.45 MPa) have a high reliability. None of the elements of the fuel assemblies studied malfunctioned due to design defects or faults in their fabrication. During the tests the jackets were subject to a little oxidation and hydrogenation (zirconium-oxide film〈3 μm thick, hydrogen content less than 0.008% by mass), and their plasticity remained high (the relative elongation at the working temperature remained at the 20% level).

Notes: Abstract The properties and fundamental methods of preparing metallic beryllium are discussed on the basis of results obtained by Soviet authors. Comparison is made between thermal reduction of beryllium fluoride by magnesium, electrolytic extraction, and purification of beryllium by distillation in vacuum. Preparation of beryllium articles by different methods of powder metallurgy, melting in vacuum induction furnaces with centrifugal casting, extrusion of beryllium articles and the structure and properties of compact beryllium are discussed. It is found that the maximum tensile strength of pure beryllium samples extruded from a metal hot-pressed in vacuum is about 20 kg/mm2 at 425
