Summary A description is given of a procedure for the reduction of aliphatic carbonyl compounds on the paper. Aldehydes, ketones and keto-acids are reduced on the chromatogram strips by means of solutions of complex hydrides (LiBH4, NaBH4). The corresponding hydroxyl compounds result. After inactivation of the catalyst and destruction of the complex that was formed, the hydroxyl compounds are developed chromatographically in the usual manner. Although the hydrogenation with Pd/H2 on the paper seems suitable especially for C=C double bonds, the method described here is selective for the carbonyl group.

Résumé Les auteurs décrivent un procédé de réduction sur papier, des composés carbonylés aliphatiques. Les aldéhydes, les cétones et les acides cétoniques sont réduits en composés hydroxylés correspondants, sur la feuille chromatographique, par action de solutions d'hydrures complexes (LiBH4, NaBH4). Après inhibition du catalyseur et destruction des complexes formés, on révèle les composés hydroxylés habituels. Du fait que l'hydrogénation à l'aide de Pd/H2, sur papier, semble tout à fait convenir, principalement pour les doubles liaisons C=C, le procédé décrit est sélectif pour les groupements carbonyles.

Zusammenfassung Verfasser beschreiben ein Verfahren zur Reduktion von aliphatischen Carbonylverbindungen auf dem Papier. Aldehyde, Ketone und Ketosäuren werden auf dem Chromatographie-Streifen unter Einwirkung von Lösungen komplexer Hydride (LiBH4, NaBH4) zu den entsprechenden Hydroxyverbindungen reduziert. Nach Inaktivierung des Katalysators und Zerstörung der gebildeten Komplexe werden die Hydroxyverbindungen in der üblichen Art chromatographisch entwickelt. Während die Hydrierung mit Pd/H2 auf dem Papier besonders für C-C-Doppelbindungen als geeignet erscheint, ist das beschriebene Verfahren selektiv für die Carbonylgruppe.
