Zusammenfassung Von 1978–1980 wurden 155 Patienten nach potentiell kurativer Operation wegen colorectalen Carcinoms nach einem tumor-spezifischen Nachsorgeprogramm nachuntersucht. Bei 22 von 26 Patienten mit Rezidiv, Fernmetastasen bzw. Zweitcarcinom war der CEA-Test frühester diagnostischer Hinweis, im Mittel 5,5 Monate vor Sicherung der Diagnose. Bei 8 von 10 Second Look Operationen ausschließlich auf Grund des auffälligen CEA-Verlaufes wurden ein Rezidiv bzw. Fernmetastasen intraabdominell gefunden. Bei 16 Patienten erfolgte eine operative Sekundärtherapie, 9mal potentiell kurativ.

Summary Between 1978 and 1980 a follow-up study was performed with 155 patients after a curative operation for colorectal cancer. In 26 cases recurrent disease or a second colorectal cancer was diagnosed. In 22 cases the CEA test was the first sign of tumor progression in the mean 5.5 months before clinical diagnosis. In 8 of 10 second-look operations, intraabdominal tumor relapse was found. Of the 16 patients operated on a second time, 9 are potentially curable.
