Description / Table of Contents:
Activation of Organic Compounds by Introduction of Transition-metal Atoms, VII1). Coupling of Organocopper Compounds of KetazinesKetazines containing a methyl or a methylene group in the α-position to one of the CN-double bonds [2,3-diazapentadiene-1,3] can be metalated at these positions with lithium-diisopropylamide. The resulting azine-lithium compounds react at -50° with copper(I)-chloride to give the corresponding organocopper compounds which on warming to 0-20° decompose to bisazines, derivatives of 2,3,8,9-tetraaza-1,3,7,9-decatetraenes. Since hydrolytic cleavage of bisazines leads smoothly to 1,4-diketones, this bisazine-synthesis provides a new synthetic approach to 1,4-diketones.
Notes:
