    Notes: Abstract Recent research into the natural course of neurofibromatosis has revealed an outstandingly high proportion of central nervous system malignancies as well as cancers of various other organs. Due to the lack of ionizing radiation, the extraordinary reconstruction in the frontal and parasaggital planes as well as the diagnosis of intracanalicular acoustic neurinomas and intraorbital tumors, magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) is indicated for control of patients with neurofibromatosis.

    Notes: Abstract.  A solar control coating was analysed by different methods of surface analysis with respect to the layer sequence and the composition and thickness of each sublayer. The methods used for depth profiling were Auger electron spectroscopy, electron probe microanalysis, secondary neutral mass spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectroscopy based on MCs+. The structure of the coating was unknown at first. All methods found a system of two metallic Ag layers, embedded between dielectric SnOX layers. Additionally, thin Ni-Cr layers of 1–2 nm were detected on top of the Ag layers. Thus the detected layer sequence is SnOX/Ni-Cr/Ag/SnOX/Ni-Cr/Ag/SnOX/glass. The Ni:Cr ratio in the nm-thin layers could be quantified by every method, the Cr fraction corresponding to less than one monolayer. We compare the capabilities and limitations of each method in routinely investigating this solar control coating. Importance was attached to an effective investigation. Nevertheless, by combining all methods, measuring artefacts could be uncovered and a comprehensive characterisation of the system was obtained.

    Notes: Abstract.  The design and the specifications of a prototype instrument for the electron gas version of secondary neutral mass spectrometry SNMS which will optionally enable measurements with X-ray induced photoelectron spectroscopy XPS, too, are described. By operating the SNMS plasma inside an ultra high vacuum vessel interfering signals from residual gas species are reduced to the level of the mass independent background. The influence of varying angular distributions of sputter-ejected neutrals at low ion energies for sample bombardment can be widely reduced by an oblique take-off for the postionized particles. First examples of SNMS-studies with the new system reveal a detection power well below 1 ppm. Analytically difficult elements as C or O become quantitatively detectable down to a level of several 10 ppm.

    Notes: Abstract Brain-stem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) were measured in 38 patients between 3 months and 18 years of age. In patients with blunt head injuries (N=28; 73.7%) no significant correlation between BAEP changes and final outcome could be established until day 36 with the exception of wave III changes in 3 children. Because various BAEP abnormalities occurred in all outcome groups and the nature of the changes was transient, we conclude that within this age group there must be a higher resistance to various lesions until irreversible impairment of brain-stem function results. In spite of this result, continuous BAEP recording in this age group appears useful, since this noninvasive investigation represents an objective assessment of topical brain-stem function.

    Description / Table of Contents: Hydroxylamines in the Four-Component Condensation (Ugi Reaction), IIHydroxylamines undergo the title reaction in the presence of hydrazoic acid to give the expected 1,5-disubstituted tetrazoles. In the case of an unsubstituted NH2 group a N,N-disubstituted reaction product is obtained, whereas in the case of severe steric hindrance the corresponding (hydroxyalkyl)tetrazole is formed. A few of the tetrazoles obtained were converted to acylderivatives, some of which are susceptible to side-chain pyrolysis under relatively mild conditions.
    Notes: Auf Hydroxylamine wird die Tetrazol-Variante der Titelreaktion angewandt; bei Vorliegen freier NH2-Gruppen tritt doppelte Umsetzung ein, während stärkere sterische Hinderung lediglich zur Bildung entsprechender (Hydroxyalkyl)tetrazole führt. Einige Produkte werden als Acylderivate charakterisiert, von denen ein Teil bei relativ niedriger Temperatur einer Seitenketten-Pyrolyse unterliegt.
