Summary The sensitivity of the radiometric detection of microbial contamination based on the labeling of cells by 14C-lysine was studied as a function of the lysineconcentration and its specific activity for a strain of E. coli and a strain of S. cerevisiae. It was found that best conditions of detection were given by a labelled lysine specific activity of 200 mCi/mmole and a medium radioactivity of 0.2 μCi/ml.
