Notes: Abstract A two-fluid model with meanσ- andω-fields is formulated for the treatment of heavy-ion collisions at incident energies around 1 GeV/u. In this energy range Fermi and Bose statistics for baryons and pions, respectively, cannot be replaced by Boltzmann statistics. The collisional coupling between the two fluids is formulated in terms of the effective nucleon-nucleon cross-sections in nuclear medium taking Pauli blocking into account. For two counterstreaming nuclear fluids the comparison of results obtained from our relativistic mean-field two-fluid model (RMF-TFM) and the relativistic Landau-Vlasov equation shows good agreement in the gross properties of the equilibration process.

Notes: Abstract. Thermodynamical properties of hot and dense nuclear matter are analyzed and compared for different equations of state (EoS). It is argued that the softest point of the equation of state and the strangeness separation on the phase boundary can manifest themselves in observables. The influence of the EoS and the order of the phase transition on the expansion dynamics of nuclear matter and strangeness excitation function is analyzed. It is shown that the bulk properties of the strangeness production in A-A collisions depend only weakly on the particular form of the EoS. The predictions of different models are related with experimental data on strangeness production.

Notes: Abstract: We compute the modification of the quark condensate 〈¯q q〉 in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions and estimate the 4-volume, where the quark condensate is small (〈¯qq〉/〈¯qq〉0≤ 0.1–0.3) using hadron phase-space distributions obtained with the quark-gluon string model. As a function of the beam energy the 4-volume rises sharply at a beam energy Elab/A ≃ (2–5) GeV, remains roughly constant up to beam energies ≃ 20 GeV and rises at higher energies. At low energies the reduction of the condensate is mainly due to baryons, while at higher energies the rise of the 4-volume is due to the abundant mesons produced. Based on our results we expect that moderate beam energies on the order of 10 GeV per nucleon are favourable for studying the restoration of chiral symmetry in a baryon-rich environment in nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Notes: Abstract The properties ofρ-mesons in dense nuclear matter are studied in a model which satisfies unitarity and current conservation. The important coupling of theρ-meson to two pions as well as the strong mixing of pions and delta-nucleon-hole states in nuclear matter are included. Theρ-meson self energy in nuclear matter is evaluated with in-medium pion propagators and the corresponding vertex corrections required by current conservation. We find that theρ-meson width grows drastically with increasing density while its mass remains almost unchanged.
