Notes: The effect of a microwave-enhanced wet chemical etching process of SiC particles on theelectroless copper plating and on the Al/Cu-coated SiC composites was investigated. Themicrowave-enhanced wet etching process increased the concentration of surface oxides on SiC. TheBET surface area of SiC increased, reached its maximum value at 30 s, and then decreased during anetching process. The enhanced chemical adhesion strength between the coated copper and SiC wasobserved after an etching process. Furthermore, the sintering density and transverse rupture strength(TRS) of Al/Cu-coated SiC composites were improved when SiC particles were etched. This resultindicated that the microwave-enhanced etching of SiC particles also improved chemical andmechanical adhesion of Al/Cu-coated SiC composites

Notes: The selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR) was investigated over Ptcatalysts supported on various supports such as alumina, ZSM-5, SBA-15, and Al-SBA-15 withdifferent amounts of alumina. Among them, Pt catalysts supported on Al-SBA-15 showed the higherNOx conversion at low temperatures than those of others. These also showed high NOx conversionsover a wide reaction temperature. As the Si/Al ratio in Al-SBA-15 decreased, the NH3-SCR activityincreased. This was closely related to the amount of strongly-adsorbed NH3

Notes: Polycarbonate/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (PC/MWNT) nanocomposites withdifferent contents of MWNT were successfully prepared by melt compounding. The mechanicalproperties of the PC/MWNT nanocomposites were effectively increased due to the incorporation ofMWNTs. The composites were characterized using scanning electron microscopy in order to obtainthe information on the dispersion of MWNT in the polymeric matrix. In case of 0.3 wt% of MWNTin the matrix, strength and modulus of the composite increased by 30% and 20%, respectively. Inaddition, the dispersion of MWNTs in the PC matrix resulted in substantial decrease in the electricalresistivity of the composites as the MWNTs loading was increased from 1.0 wt% to 1.5 wt%

Notes: A simple and mass producible method was developed to incorporate multiwalled carbonnanotubes (MWCNTs) into electrospun silk fibroin (Bombyx mori) nanofibers. The process consistsof dispersing the acid-treated MWCNTs in an aqueous silk fibroin solution, and blending thissolution with a water-soluble polymer, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), followed by electrospinning ofthe composite solution. The morphology and microstructure of the electrospun nanofibers werecharacterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmissionelectron microscopy (TEM). The FESEM and TEM images show that the MWCNTs are embeddedalong the nanofibers. Aqueous-based electrospinning of silk/PEO/MWCNTs composites providespotentially useful options for the fabrication of biomaterial scaffolds, e.g. wound dressings, basedon this unique fibrous protein

Notes: A highly concentrated solution of polystyrene (PS) in N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF)was electrospun and the surface morphology of the electrospun PS fibers was investigated. Unlikethe porous morphology observed on the surface of the fibers electrospun from the PS solution in avolatile solvent, e.g. tetrahydrofuran, a regular protuberance morphology was found on the surfaceof the fibers electrospun from the PS solution in the non-volatile solvent, DMF. This unique surfacemorphology was formed due to the presence of residual DMF solvent inside the electrospun PSfiber. Due to the large diameter of the PS fibers (~5 to ~10 μm) formed from the highly viscous PSsolution, the DMF could not evaporate completely from inside them during the electrospinningprocess. Therefore, the extrusive force of the residual solvent inside the fiber induced the formationof a unique surface morphology. We believe that this unique surface morphology increases thesurface area of the electrospun fibers, thus making it possible to control their wetting or adsorptionbehavior

Notes: Structural reliability of electrical panels installed in naval vessels is of criticalimportance from the structural performance viewpoint. The electrical panels may beexposed to vibration and fatigue loadings from internal and external sources as well aswave loadings that result into fatigue crack and fracture due to the decrease of fatiguestrength. In this regard, electrical outfitting equipments on naval vessels are required tocomply with capabilities against vibration and shock tests, normally tested according toMilitary Standard. This study introduces the effect of post welding treatment, such astoe grinding as well as post welding heat treatment (PWHT), are examined through aseries of fatigue and impact tests according to military standards. On the other hand, theuse of elastic mounts that are capable of isolating and mitigating shock and vibrationtoward electrical panels are investigated. Both experimental and numerical results arepresented based on the analysis according to military standards

Notes: It is well known that metal dichalcogenides MS2 (M=Mo, W, Nb, Ta, TiS, Zr ,Hf, S=S, Se)have lamellar structure, the bonds of adjacent lamellae are weak van der Waals interactions andinter-lamellar are strong covalent interactions. The structures make adjacent lamellae easy to slip andit shows low friction coefficient during friction process. MS2 are often used as solid lubricants inhigh/low temperature, heave load and vacuum, in which oil is failure. WS2 has better hightemperature properties than MoS2, although little natural WS2 mineral has been deposited, and peoplemust synthesize it by chemical means, so its price is nearly 5 times expensive than that of MoS2. Untilnow little study is made comparing with MoS2. Furthermore the research papers about tribologicalbehavior of NbS2, TaS2, TiS2, ZrS2, HfS2 are not seen. In this study the thermal decompositionmethod is used to produce fullerene-like MS2 nanotubes. The morphology, microstructure andtribological behavior of MS2 nanotubes are investigated by means of SEM, TEM, XRD and AFM.The results show that the diameter of MoS2, WS2 and NbS2 nanotube is less than 100nm, and thelength is more than 2μm. The MoS2, WS2 nanotube has lower friction coefficient than MoS2 powdertested by AFM using Si3N4 probe. Similar results are also found for NbS2 nanotube. Themacroscopic friction test for pin on disc tester shows nearly the same results. TEM image shows thatMS2 nanotubes have rolling debris between two antagonist surfaces, and MoS2 powder only hasflattened debris. It may be the fullerene structure brings the chemical stability and lead low friction

Notes: Carbon-supported palladium catalysts were prepared by an impregnation method usingpalladium chloride and different carbon supports such as activated carbons with different surfaceoxygen concentrations and a mesoporous carbon, CMK-5.. The different degree of surface oxidationwas achieved by the nitric acid and high-temperature heat treatment. The molecular PdCl2 species wasstabilized by adding an HCl in an impregnation step.. As the reduction temperature increased, the Pddispersion decreased for all Pd catalysts. There was no noticeable difference in Pd dispersion amongPd catalysts supported on carbon supports with different physicochemical properties when thereduction temperature was 423 K. Pd catalysts supported on the carbon support with a highconcentration of surface oxygen groups showed a better dispersion than did other Pd catalysts whenthey were reduced at 573 K. The maximum Pd dispersion was observed over Pd catalyst supported oncarbon supports with the highest surface area when the reduction temperature was higher than 573 K

Notes: Nowadays, the research on the greenization of clamping technology obviously lags theresearch of green cutting, green machine tool etc. This paper provides a new clamping system toclamp the workpiece by the green fast heating/cooling adverse-change semiconductor technologyand temperature controllability to thermal sensitive medium with volume effect. This clampingsystem has a low speed operating part, few moving parts, low medium leakage and noise pollutionand it is convenient to be flexible configuration of multi-place, multi-workpiece and multi-directionclamping. Furthermore, the clamping system can use the sensors of temperature, pressure anddisplacement to collect the relative data and process them by computer, then intelligently control theclamp force and clamping displacement
