Abstract In the light of the physiological-functional properties of the upper efferent urinary tracts and basing on our own animal experiments the question of bridging total ureteral defects is dealt with. For the time being, a successful ureter replacement over a longer period is only possible by endogenous, peristalting tissue that is sufficiently supplied with blood.
