Notes: Abstract The theories of continental drift are examined by means of a comparison of fitting or diverging metallogenic belts, provinces and periods. Whereas the evidence derived from this one field of geology supports the theories on continental drift in many instances, other areas do not show satisfactory coincidences in time and space or even missing links and information. Conclusions concerning the provenance of the metals have been drawn. (An extensive English summary is given at the end of the text.)

Notes: Abstract Some Mediterranean bauxite deposits in karst, considered to be allochthonous originating from neighboring silicate rocks, reveal the following common features of fluvial transport and sedimentation: (1) The SiO2 content increases in the direction of the transport; (2) the trace elements indicate the area of origin; (3) the bauxite was deposited in depressions of a slightly karstified coastal plain in a lagoonal or estuarine environment; (4) the karst relief became accentuated after the bauxite was covered by sediments; and (5) the depth of the karstic depressions was controlled by the former groundwater level. Therefore, the thickness of the orebodies increases with the distance from the former shoreline. These factors have an implication on the strategy of exploration. The following examples are taken from central Greece and Montenegro and comparisons are made with the bauxite districts of France, Italy, and Jamaica.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The triassic wallrocks of the Pb-Zn-deposits in the Kalkalpen are showing halos of zinc around the deposits. The halos have an extension of several meters and could be used for finding new ore bodies in the Mine of Bleiberg. A geochemical field survey proved the connection of the anomalies with certain faults.

Notes: Summary The author of the paper discusses the influence of tectonic forces on coal which is clearly shown by the structure of deformed coal seams. The succession of incoalation and deformation may be concluded from microscopical investigations. Recent studies on the optical anisotropy of coals show that this phenomenon was either caused by the weight of the overburden or by tectonic stress. The devolatilization of many coals is due to these two kinds of forces and may be used to estimate the approximate folding pressure.
