Notes: Abstract The activity concentrations of 99mTc-HMPAO in brain after intravenous injection were evaluated in 25 patients using SPECT. With additional first pass studies of heart and brain with the short lived isotope 195mAu, the cardiac output and the mean cerebral transit times of the patients were measured a short time before the HMPAO injection. The time dependence of 99mTc-HMPAO activity in the brain was registered during the first 5 min after injection over both hemispheres. Using a simplified three compartment model it was possible to calculate the mean retention fraction of HMPAO in brain from the time activity curves. It could be shown that the regional cerebral blood flow in ml/min per 100 g can be calculated from the activity concentration of HMPAO in the brain, the cardiac output and the retention fraction. In 15 of the 25 cases the rCBF was measured using the planar 133Xe inhalation method as a reference. We found a significant correlation between the mean hemisphere CBF from our method and the mean hemisphere grey matter CBF from the Xenon method with a correlation coefficient of 0.73.

Description / Table of Contents: Cu2+ in Trigonal-bipyramidal Coordination: Structure of CuGaInO4CuGaInO4 crystallizes in space group R3m with the hexagonal unit cell parameters a = 335.4(3) and c = 2481(5) pm (Z = 3). The anions form a 12-layer structure with the sequence (31)3. Indium has a position between cubically packed oxygen layers and possesses a (trigonally-compressed) octahedral coordination. Cu2+ and Ga3+ - with positions near to the oxygen layers of hexagonal sequence - have a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination (distorted: C3v). Polyhedra of the same kind form layers by mutual connections via common edges. Polyhedra of different kind are connected with each other along the 3-axis by common corners.

Description / Table of Contents: Structure of CuAlInO4 - Structural and Spectroscopic Investigation on Compounds MIIMeIIIInO4 [MII: Mn2+ -Zn2+; MeIII: Al, Ga]A single crystal X-ray analysis of CuAlInO4 yielded a monoclinic structure [space group: Cm; am = 572.8(3) pm, bm = 330.9(2) pm, cm = 835.2(3) pm, β = 103.2(2)°; Z = 2], in which Cu2+ and Al3+ possess a distorted trigonal bipyramidal and In3+ an octahedral coordination. In hexagonal description the sequence of oxygen layers is ababcacabcbc with Cu2+ and Al3+ close to those layers, which have a hexagonal packing symmetry, and In3+ between layers of cubic packing sequence. Compounds MIIMeIIIInO4 (MII: Mg2+, Mn2+, Co2+, Cu2+ Zn2+; MeIII: Al3+, Ga3+) have the same structure. Ligand field and EPR spectroscopic results confirm the trigonal bipyramidal coordination of the transition metal ions. The stabilisation of the CuAlInO4- with respect to the spinel structure is discussed on the basis of site preference energies.
