Rearrangements of Vinylogous Acyl Chlorides, XIV1). - 2H-Pyran Valence Isomerization of cis-trans-2,3,4,5-Tetrachloro-2,4-pentadienal and 1,3-Rearrangement to 4H-PyranStarting from the acid chloride 4c the stereoisomeric pentadienals 1b and 6 were obtained. The 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of the trans-aldehyde 6 is stable, while that of the cis-aldehyde 1b very easily undergoes cyclization to the 4-pyridone 8. In contrast to 6 the aldehyde 1b is thermally unstable and extremely sensible to moisture. Valence isomerization occurs at room temperature, but the 2H-pyran 2b, whose presence is indicated by 1H-NMR, is rapidly transformed into the 4H-pyran 10. The 4H-pyran 10 may be converted into the pyrylium salts 11 by Lewis acids. Hydrolysis of 1b, 10 and 11 gives the 4-pyrone 12.
Notes:
