Conclusions 1. The PÉFAG-1 apparatus and its portable small-scale version can be used not only to detect hepatitis B antigen, but also to detect antigens of tick-borne encephalitis and meningococcal infection and other bacterial and viral antigens for the diagnosis of infectious diseases. 2. The sensitivity of determination of antigens and antibodies on the PÉFAG-1 apparatus was found to be 2–3 times higher than radial immunodiffusion and 10–20 times higher than countercurrent immunodiffusion. 3. When the PÉFAG-1 apparatus is used to diagnose virus hepatitis results can be obtained in 30–45 min, compared with 10–15 min for the modified instrument. 4. The apparatus guarantees high specificity, demonstrability, and reproducibility of the results.
