Description / Table of Contents: Summary The reaction conditions and normal values of serum arylamidase (so-called leucine aminopeptidase=LAP) were determined for 692 normal human sera. Usingl-leucine-p-nitroaniline as a substrate (LEUPA), the yellow coloured reaction product p-nitroaniline can be directly photometered at 405 mµ. The optimal pH ranges were found to be between pH 7,2 and pH 7,5. A logonormal distribution was demonstrated by statistical analysis, and the mean value observed was 15,6 mU/ml (2s range 8,5–28,5). These values were compared with values existing in the literature.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary A method for rapid blood glucose determination is described. A blood sample of 5 µl is sufficient. The method uses the hexokinase and G-6-PDH reaction. Capillary blood is hemolyzed by addition of 0,5 ml water to 5 µl blood. The method needs no deproteinisation.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The present report deals with a method for the enzymatic determination of galactose requiring only 10 µl of whole blood and dispensing with deproteinization and centrifugation. This process offers the following advantages: High specificity, sensitivity and time-saving procedure. This procedure should be of a special interest in hepatological research. The simultaneous determination of galactose and glucose using a 10 µl sample of blood is of interest to pediatrics.

Notes: Summary The disposition kinetics of bezafibrate, a newly developed drug of great lipid-lowering potency, were investigated in normal male subjects. Five male volunteers received14C-labelled bezafibrate orally in solution, and a further 10 were given the same dose (300 mg) of un-labelled drug as tablets. The concentration of bezafibrate in serum and urine from the latter was determined by GC, and in the former total radioactivity in serum, urine and feces was followed for 48 h, and urinary excretion products were analysed by TLC and GC-MS. Rapid absorption from the gastrointestinal tract led to peak serum levels 30 min and 2 h after administration of solution and tablets, respectively. Since approximately 95% of the administered14C-bezafibrate was excreted in urine within 48 h, and almost all the remainder was detected in feces, absorption can be regarded as complete after administration in solution. The relative optimal bioavailability from the tablets was also complete, since in both cases approximately 50% of the administered dose was detected as unchanged bezafibrate in urine within 24 h by GC in the tablet study, and by TLC in the solution study. Of the decomposition products, more than 20% of the dose was present as glucuronides and the remainder consisted of several more polar compounds, one of which was identified as a hydroxyderivative of bezafibrate. Since the apparent halflife of bezafibrate in serum was 2.1 h, this new drug possesses favourable pharmacokinetic features: rapid and complete absorption, even from tablets, combined with a conveniently short half-life, and clearance which is half renal (56 ml/min) and half metabolic (43 ml/min), giving a total clearance of 99 ml/min.

Notes: Abstract For a given reference-structure the following problem is posed: Find a partition of a program's (resp. ist data) addresses in pages of limited size and a paging-algorithm such that the “page-fault-rate” is minimized. A “paging-complexity” (of reference-structures) is introduced in order to measure optimal performance. It is shown that the paging-complexity of a concatenation of simple loops is the arithmetic mean of the paging-complexities of the loops involved. The proof rests on a theorem on linear diophantine equations which may deserve attention for its own sake.
