Notes:
The main product of the oxydation of glycerol by horse liver alcohol dehydro-genase is L-glyceraldehyde; only a small amount of D-glyceraldehyde is formed. This is a new proof of the «biological asymmetry» of glycerol. The two forms of the glyceraldehyde were identified by enzymatic condensation with phosphodihydroxy-acetone and separation of the ketohexoses formed (L-Sorbose and D-Fructose) as borate complexes on a Dowex-1-column.
