Notes: Abstract Monitoring strategies were developed to track non–genetically engineered Pseudomonas putida strains in the open environment. The strain E1 was used for four years for the biodegradation of phenolic compounds in industrial wastewater in Põlva, Estonia. In this study we used the strain E2 which is a non-carbenicillin-resistant variant of the strain E1. Both strains have a deletion of approximately 34 kb in the TOL plasmid pWW0 which served as a basis for discrimination from indigenous bacteria by molecular analyses. Other targets used for PCR and DNA hybridization were the xylE gene and a sequence located in the left-handed region of to the transposon Tn4652. In laboratory tests we demonstrated that two cells inoculated into 20 ml of river water could be detected against a background of more than 107 colony forming units (CFUs) by a combination of growth on selective media and molecular analysis. Using the same combination of methods in a deliberate release experiment, detection of the released strain was possible only to 32 h after release. It is assumed that the released strains did not survive in the aquatic ecosystem, mainly due to the high dilution rate. The combination of cultivation on selective media and molecular analyses proved useful for tracking Pseudomonas putida strain E2 in an aquatic environment.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die sog.
Notes: Summary So-called sphincter-sclerosis or fibous vesical cervix rigidity in the region of the lower detrusor-loops is a secondary urological disease and occurs as a result of chronic-inflammatory processes in the region of the vesical outlet. Out of a total of 110 cases (101 men 7 women and 2 children) between 1945 and 1968, the frequency in the last 6 years in 1183 subvesical urine-flow disturbances was 7.3% (= 78 cases). The diagnosis is made by the practician and confirmed by the pathologist. Differentiation causally between primary-inflammatory, post-operative-post-instrumental or congenital sphincter-sclerosis should be made and formally between the medial, dorsal barrier, circumscribed circular anulus-sclerosis and extensive, deep vesical cervix rigidity.

Notes: Summary The effects of 4-benzylhydroxy-3,5-diiodobenzoic acid on isolated mitochondria ofWalker carcinosarcoma 256 and liver tissue of the same animals were compared. It was shown that, by the same concentrations of the uncoupling halo-phenol, the oxidative phosphorylation of tumor mitochondria was impaired in a higher degree than that of liver mitochondria.

Notes: [Auszug] BIBA was synthesized according to the method described by Frieden and Winzler5. Since the compound is almost insoluble in water, it could be used only in declared concentrations. The substance was dissolved in glycerol/ water (1 : 1), adjusting the pH to 7-4 by the drop wise addition of 10 M ...

Notes: Summary The influence of mechanical (movements of catheter against bladder wall) and chemical (filling with Formalin in different concentrations) irritations on the isometrically determined function of healthy cat bladders was compared. These experiments were performed in order to test the principal responses of bladder function and to obtain a standardisized change of this function. Both a diminished capacity and a pronounced activity of detrusor muscle in the collection phase and during micturition reflex were observed. There was no significant change in intravesical pressure parameters. 0.5 and 1% Formalin may cause an irreversible change of bladder wall motility, possibly secondary to a spasm or chemical reaction between Formalin and tissues. 0.1 and 0.2% Formalin was found to be an adaequat agent to provoke a peripheral, reproductible and reversible irritaded urinary bladder in the cat.

Notes: Summary The influence of two anaesthetic agents (urethane and chloralose) on isometrically determined bladder function was compared in the cat. Even if the animal still showed pronounced muscle reflexes urethane (50 mg/kg and more) clearly impaired bladder function in the phase of collection and also the micturition reflex. Chloralose, even when applied in an anaesthetic dose (60 mg/kg i.p.) did not influence bladder function whatsoever. For this reason chloralose is preferable as an anaesthetic agent in functional experiments on the detrusor muscle of the cat.
