    Notizen: This article presents the first case of fatal pericardial tamponade following immediately after- successful percutaneous balloon mitral commissurotonry by the Inoue balloon. The patient had a large right atrium associated with severe tricuspid regurgitation and this led to incorrect atrial puncture (so culled stitching phenomenon) under the Inoue method fir determining the site of fossa ovalis.     Notizen: Abstract The rhizobox system offers quantitative information concerning within the pH changes the range of the rhizosphere. The movement of 65Zn, 54Mn and 59Fe across the rhizosphere of soybean was examined. The contributions of the rhizosphere processes to heavy metals solubilization was evaluated. Changes in pH values around the roots of barley and soybean were investigated using the rhizobox. Results indicate that the extent to which the rhizosphere pH can differ from that of the bulk soil depends mainly on the plant species and initial bulk soil pH. Apparently, soybean has greater ability than barley to solubiiize heavy metals in the rhizosphere. The range of pH change was different from that of the heavy metals, indicating that the solubility of heavy metals is not only influenced by soil pH.

    Notizen: Abstract Pure phloem sap was collected from insects feeding on rice (Oryza sativa L.) leaves by a laser technique similar to the aphid stylet technique. Rapid circulation of nitrogen in the sieve tubes was demonstrated directly using 15N as a tracer. Application to the roots of the metabolic inhibitors of amino acids, aminooxyacetate and methioninesulfoximine, changed the amino acid composition in the sieve tubes. Feeding methionine to leaf tips resulted in its bulk transfer into the sieve tubes. In vitro experiments confirmed the existence of protein kinases in the pure rice phloem sap. The phosphorylation status of the sieve tube sap proteins was affected by the light regime. The possibility that changes in chemical composition or protein modification such as phosphorylation in the sieve tubes might affect plant growth are discussed. Analysis of pure phloem sap collected from rice plants by insect laser technique has shown dynamic changes in the chemical composition and the quality of proteins in the sap.

    Notizen: Abstract A λZAPII-cDNA library constructed from poly(A)+-RNA isolated from Fe-deficient barley roots was used for differential screening of barley roots grown in the presence and absence of Fe. Among seven clones that hybridised specifically to the probe for Fe deficiency, one clone (Ids2) was sequenced. Using a part of the cDNA sequence as a probe, a genomic-DNA library was probed and a corresponding DNA clone was isolated and sequenced. The predicted amino acid sequence resembled 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase. Ids2 had a metal regulatory element as well as Cu regulatory elements of CUP1 gene of yeast MT.

    Notizen: Abstract The reason why young rice plant is highly susceptible to Fe-deficiency was clarified as follows: Among Gramineae plants rice secreted a very low amount of deoxy-MA as a phytosiderophore even under Fe-deficiency, and the secretion by rice ceased within 10 days under Fe-deficiency although barley secreted MAs during a period of more than one month. When iron depletion continued, the rice root tips become chimeric and epidermal cells became necrotic. The mitochondrial membrane systems in the cortex cells were also severely damaged. Iron starvation occurred even in the mitochondria, and energy charge in the root decreased. This reduced energy charge has firstly diminished the secretion activity of deoxy-MA from the roots, secondly reduced the activity of the transporter which absorb deoxy-MA-FeIII chelate and finally reduced the synthesis of deoxy-MA from metionine. Consequently, the depletion of FeII in the shoot was induced and severe chlorosis rapidly developed in the young rice plant under Fe-deficiency.
