    Notes: Abstract A search forα-decay of high spin isomers in the mass range 140〈A〈200 is reported. Fusion reactions with beams of132Xe and50Ti have been used to provide high velocity recoils with angular momenta beyond 50ℏ. Recoil distance experiments sensitive to half lives longer than 10 ps and shorter than about 1 ns have been performed for 31 different compound nuclei. Within a sensitivity of 1–30μb per event no delayedα-emission has been observed.

    Notes: Abstract Recent experimental results on heavy-ion fusion cross sections for asymmetric systems and on angular momentum transfer in damped collisions are shown to be well described, if rolling friction is explicitly taken into account. Its neglect in various other trajectory calculations leads to a significant underestimate of the fusion cross section as well as of the transferred angular momentum.

    Notes: Abstract The26Al(n, p)26Mg reaction has been studied using neutron spectra which closely resembled Maxwell-Boltzmann (M.-B.) distributions with thermal energies ofkT=40 ×10−6, 31 and 71 keV and also forE n =270–350 keV. These energies correspond to stellar temperaturesT 9=4.6×10−7, 0.36, 0.82 and 3.1–4.1, whereT 9 is in units of 109 K. The partial cross sections for thep 0-(p 1-)transition are found to equal 26±10(1,850 ±150), 13±6(124±17), 16±13(84±14) and 21±8(72±15) mb for the above neutron spectra, respectively. The astrophysical reaction rate is determined for the combinedp 0- andp 1-transitions to beN A 〈σν〉=(0.324±0.026, 20.5±2.7, 22.6±4.3 and 38.7±11.1) ×106 cm3 mole−1 s−1. The results are compared with previous investigations and with statistical model calculations.

    Notes: Abstract All reaction products in the range from target- and projectile-like to fission-like fragments were measured for the system84Kr+27Al at 5.9 MeV/u beam energy. They are assigned to the various reaction mechanisms on the basis of experimental signatures (energy dissipation, mass and angular distribution). The sum of the measured partial cross sections, including the evaporation residue yield obtained previously, agrees with the total reaction cross section derived from elastic scattering. A small fast-fission component was found, discernible from deep-inelastic reactions by its 1/sin θ angular distribution, and distinguished from compound-nucleus fission by an incomplete mass asymmetry relaxation.

    Notes: Abstract Angular distributions for inelastic scattering, for 1 and 2-nucleon transfer reactions were studied at 18.2 MeV/u beam energy. Owing to sequential decay of excited reaction products the nuclide yield measured at various angles and in different regions of total kinetic energy loss (TKEL) does not represent the yield of primordial nuclides A Z. Monte Carlo calculations were applied in order to reconstruct the primary double-differential cross-sections d2σ/dΩdTKEL for values of TKEL up to 80 MeV. By comparing the probability of inelastic scattering and that of transfer reactions it is found that the former dominates for TKEL〈 10 MeV, whereas the situation is reversed above 20 MeV. No evidence is found for the excitation of giant resonances with significant cross section.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die therapeutische Effektivität und Pharmakokinetik der Cephalosporine Ceftazidim, Ceftizoxim, Cefotaxim und HR 221 wurde tierexperimentell untersucht. Tiermodell war die experimentelle östrogengebahnte und nicht-gebahnte chronischeE. coli-Pyelonephritis der Ratte. Die Tiere wurden für eine Woche 2× täglich mit 5 mg Cephalosporin/kg behandelt. Alle Cephalosporine führten zu einem signifikanten Abfall der renalen Keimzahlen trotz der niedrigen Dosierung. In beiden Tiermodellen war Ceftazidim signifikant wirksamer als HR 221, obwohl die Serumspiegel von HR 221 höher waren und länger andauerten als die von Ceftazidim. Unterschiede in der Pharmakokinetik (metabolische Stabilität, Proteinbindung) könnten der Grund für die unterschiedliche therapeutische Effektivität sein, da die antimikrobielleIn-vitro-Aktivität aller Cephalosporine gegenüber dem Testkeim sehr ähnlich war.
    Notes: Summary The therapeutic efficacy and pharmacokinetics of the cephalosporins ceftazidime, ceftizoxime, cefotaxime and HR 221 were studied in animal experiments. The animal model used was experimental estrogen-induced or non-induced chronicEscherichia coli pyelonephritis in rats. The animals were treated with 5 mg cephalosporin/kg twice daily for one week. Each of the cephalosporins tested led to a significant decrease in renal bacterial counts, in spite of the low doses given. Ceftazidime was significantly more active than HR 221 in both experimental models, although the serum levels of HR 221 were higher and were maintained for a longer period of time than those of ceftazidime. Differences in pharmacokinetic properties (influenced by metabolic stability and protein binding) could be the reason for the differences in therapeutic activity, since thein vitro antimicrobial activity of each of the cephalosporins tested was very similar against the test strain.
