Notes: Abstract The level structure of the 87-neutron nucleus151Gd has been investigated by studying the EC- andβ +-decay of151Tb. Gamma-ray and conversion electron spectra as well as gamma-gamma coincidence spectra were measured by using semiconductor spectrometers and a high-capacity two-parameter recording system. The proposed decay scheme contains several new energy levels in151Gd, among them a 5−/2 state at 427 keV. To explain the low-energy level structure, a small stable deformation is assumed for151Gd. Using a single-particle-plus-rotor model based on a generalized Woods-Saxon potential, complete mixing of the shells 1h 9/2, 2f 7/2 and separately 1i 13/2 is observed. By these mixings the correct level order and approximately correct excitation energies up to 1 MeV are reproduced.

Notes: Abstract Theβ −-decay of 66 167 Dy produced through the fast neutron reaction170Er(n, α)167Dy has been investigated by using several kinds of detectors and a high-capacity two-parameter recording system. The half-life andβ −-decay energy of167Dy were determined to beT 1/2 = 6.20 ± 0.08min andQ β-=2.35±0.06, respectively. The observed level scheme of 67 167 Ho (completely unknown previously) contains 12 states, among them a 6.0±0.1 μsM2 isomer at 259.3 keV. On the basis of theoretical and systematic considerations combined with multipole determinations, the following Nilsson model assignments are proposed for the lowest states of167Ho: 0 keV (7−/2 [523]), 259.3 keV (3+/2[411]), 319.8 keV (5/2 3+/2[411]), 392.5 keV (1+/2[411]), 410.0 keV (3/2 1+/2[411]), 569.7 keV (3−/2{7−/2[523], 2+}). Theβ-decay proceeds mainly to the proposed gamma-vibrational state at 569.7 keV with an anomalously low logft value 5.4, indicating similarity between the microscopic structures of this state and the famous ¦K 0−2¦ gamma vibration of165Ho.

Notes: Abstract TheΒ −-decay of the longer-lived170Ho isomer produced through the170Er(n, p)170Ho reaction has been investigated by using a versastile detector and coincidence equipment. The half-life andΒ −-decay energy were determined to beT 1/2=2.76±0.05 min andQ β =3.85±0.15 MeV, respectively. In addition to the ground state band and some higher energy levels, the proposed level scheme of170Er contains 11 states between 1.0 and 1.6 MeV (6 new ones), which are connected mutually by previously unknown low-energy transitions. Spin and/or parity assignments based mainly on coincidence data and multipolarity determinations are suggested for most of these states. By using systematic considerations and the nuclear projection model calculations several bands withK≧2 can be assigned tentatively. As a side result the half-life of169Ho was determined to be 4.7 ±0.2 min.

Notes: Abstract Decay properties of excited states in the151Nd and155Sm nuclei produced by 10 MeV douterons have been investigated with in-beam gamma-gamma-coincidence equipment during bombardment of the150Nd and154Sm targets. The results largely confirm the data obtained earlier for these nuclei. The (d, p γ) reaction channel favors population of odd-parity low-spin levels, whose energies follow the rule of regular band structure for well-deformed nuclei. The level schemes are interpreted with calculations using an axial particle-rotor model with a Woods-Saxon potential.

Notes: Abstract Excited states in the nucleus155Eu have been produced during in-beam bombardments of a154Sm target with3He beams at 22 and 27 MeV. Decay gamma rays were detected using coincidence equipment optimized for low-energy photons. The level scheme is based on the observedγγ-coincidence relationships combined with the information on relative intensities. Tentatively suggested spin assignments follow from the apparent rotational character of the nucleus. Experimental observations are compared with predictions calculated from a particle-rotor model with a nonspheroidal Woods-Saxon potential.

Notes: Abstract The high spin level structure of the three-neutron nucleus149Gd has been investigated by in-beamγ-ray and electron spectroscopy with (α, xn) reactions. The observed levels are characterized as members of the shell model multipletsνf 7 2/3 ,νh 9/2 f 7 2/2 ,νf 7 2/3 ×3−,νh 9/2 f 7 2/2 ×3−, and tentativelyνf 7 2/3 ×(3−)2. The energies of theν f 7 2/3 states agree only moderately with those calculated using empirical two-nucleon interactions taken from148Gd, which indicates the importance of long range contributions already atN=85.

Notes: Abstract The proton-hole character of states in159Ho has been studied using the162, 164Er(p, α)159, 161Ho reactions with 17 MeV protons. The shapes of angular distributions measured for both nuclei were compared, with good agreement in most cases, to tritoncluster-transfer DWBA calculations. The deviations obtained and the experimental normalization factors deduced for the164Er(p, α)161Ho reaction by comparisons to (t, α) cross sections indicate a need for a revised treatment of the mechanism of the (p, α) reaction on deformed nuclei. By comparisons to the well-known states in161Ho, nuclear structure factors were obtained for many levels in159Ho. The Nilsson assignments for the 3/2+[411], 5/2−[532] and 5/2+[413] bands were confirmed and the lowest rotational members of these bands were established. The anomalous strengths of the strongly mixed positive parity states in159, 161, 163Ho are discussed in the frame-work of the Nilsson model with the pairing and effective Coriolis strengths included. The Coriolis strengths giving best fits to excitation energies also improve the agreement of theory with the experimental nuclear structure factors. Rotational spacings of the 5/2+[413] and especially those of the 5/2−[532] bands in159, 161, 163Ho show mixmg effects unexplainable by the present calculations.
