    Notes: A series of six N-benzoyl-thiocarbamic-O-alkylesters (R=Me, Et, i-Pr, Benzyl, n-Hex, n-Dodec; 1-6) has been prepared and characterized. They are weak monoprotic acids. The compounds behave as fairly stable and versatile bidentate (O,S)-chelating ligands towards multivalent metal ions e. g. Ni(II), Cu(II), Pb(II) the stability constants of which have been determined in 75 vol% dioxane/water. The molecular structure of bis(O-ethyl-N-benzoylthiocarbamato)nickel(II) 2a is presented. The coordination of the nickel atom is square planar with the two sulphur atoms in cis position.

    Notes: 1-Amino-4-aryl-2(1H)-pyrimidinethiones: Acidity and Complex Formation with Nonferrous Metal Ions and Ag(I)Acid dissociation constants of new 2, 3 and already known 1 substituted 1-amino-4-aryl-2(1H)-pyrimidinethiones and stability constants of their nonferrous metal ion and silver complexes have been measured pH-potentiometrically in a 75% (v/v) mixture of dioxane/water. The influence of the substituents on pKa- and lgβn-values is discussed. The X-ray structure analysis of bis[1-(4-toluenesulfonamido)-4-(4-tolyl)-2(1H)-pyrimidinethionatol]-nickel(II)5 proves that pyrimidinethiones coordinate via their thione sulphur and aminonitrogen. However, the bond lengths are not levelled in the chelating ring.

    Notes: Complexes of Zn(II) with Schiff Bases of Hydrazine-O-methylcarbothionates - NMR-Spectroscopic InvestigationsSchiff bases of hydrazine-O-methylcarbothionates react as bi- or tridentate ligands with Zn(II) ions forming neutral metal complexes (1a-1g). 1H-, 13C- and 15N-NMR-spectra of these complexes show the existence of configurational isomers of the C=N-double bond. Furthermore, depending on the ligands 4 different coordination patterns with the donor atoms N2S2, N4, N2O2 and NOS are demonstrated.

    Notes: Acidity and Complex Formation of CurcuminoidsThe stoichiometric acid dissociation constants of curcumin 1a and derivatives as well as the stoichiometric stability constants of the Cu(II)- and Ni(II)-complexes of these substances have been determined by pH-potentiometric titrations in dioxane-water mixture.The influence of different substituents on the pKa-values and the stability constants is discussed. The complexing properties of the —CO—CH2—CO— structural element of the ligands are not significantly changed when the phenyl group is substituted by the styryl group. Solid CuL2-complexes have been characterized. The coordination of the ester group in the tricarbonyl ligand systems 4 was excluded by i.r. spectroscopy.

    Description / Table of Contents: Some 3-, 4- and 5-phenylazo derivatives of 2-hydroxyacetophenone as well as their copper, nickel, and beryllium chelates were prepared and studied. From the stability constants and the colours of the chelates, and by analysis of the IR spectra of the ligands and metal complexes it is concluded that in the 3-phenylazo compound the transition metals copper(II) and nickel(II) are co-ordinated by the azo group, but beryllium by the acetyl group.
    Notes: Es wurden einige 3-, 4- und 5-Phenylazoderivate des 2-Hydroxyacetophenons sowie ihre Kupfer-, Nickel- und Berylliumchelate dargestellt und untersucht. Mit Hilfe der Komplexstabilitätskonstanten, an Hand der Färbungen der Komplexe und durch Diskussion der IR-Spektren von Liganden und Metallkomplexen wurde gezeigt, daβ bei der 3-Phenyl-azo-Verbindung die Übergangsmetalle Kupfer(II) und Nickel(II) an der Azo-Gruppe koordinieren, das Beryllium dagegen am Acetylrest.

Planar-octahedral Constitution Isomerism of Nickel Chelates with t-Butyl Substituted β-DiketonesThe nickel complexes of some differently substituted pivaloyacylmethanes are prepared and their association behaviour is studied. Beside the paramagnetic trimeres in some cases also the diamagnetic monomers can be isolated in the solid state. Equilibrium constants are determined for selected cases. The high tendency to associate, found for chelates with trifluoracetylpivaloylmethane and pentachlordibenzoylmethane when compared with their halogen-free homologues, shows the influence of electronic factors besides steric ones.
    Notes: Es werden die Nickelkomplexe einer Reihe unterschiedlich substituierter Pivaloylacylmethane dargestellt und ihr Assoziationsverhalten untersucht. Neben den paramagnetischen trimeren Assoziaten können in zahlreichen Fällen auch die diamagnetischen Monomeren in Substanz isoliert werden. Für ausgewählte Nickelkomplexe werden die Gleichgewichtskonstanten bestimmt. Die große Assoziationstendenz der Chelate mit Trifluoracetylpivaloylmethan und Pentachlordibenzoylmethan im Vergleich zu halogenfreien Homologen macht neben den sterischen Einflüssen auch das Wirken elektronischer Faktoren deutlich.

    Description / Table of Contents: Metal Chelates with N-Benzoylthiobenzamide, N-Benzoylbenzamide, and N-ThiobenzoylbenzamidineN-Benzoylthiobenzamide, 1, N-benzoylbenzamide, 2, and N-thiobenzoylbenzamidine-hydrochloride, 3, yield neutral complexes with numerous metal ions which have been characterized by i.r., electronic, and mass spectra as well as magnetic measurements. Compared with the CH2-analogous monothiodibenzoylmethane, H-MTDBM, the isosteric NH group in 1 preferentially influences the properties of the free ligand, e. g. tautomerism, configuration, acidity. ESCA data are used for the discussion of structures and bonding situations of the ligands and its metal complexes.
    Notes: N-Benzoylthiobenzamid, 1, N-Benzoylbenzamid, 2, und N-Thiobenzoyl-benzamidinhydrochlorid, 3, geben mit zahlreichen Metallionen Neutralkomplexe, die durch IR-, UV/VIS- und Massenspektren sowie magnetische Messungen charakterisiert werden. Verglichen mit dem CH2-analogen Monothiodibenzoylmethan, H-MTDBM, wirkt sich die isostere NH-Gruppe in 1 vorwiegend auf die Eigenschaften des freien Liganden (Tautomerie, Konfiguration, Azidität) aus. ESCA-Spektren werden zur Struktur- und Bindungsinterpretation bei Liganden und Metallkomplexen herangezogen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Mass Spectrometric Fragmentation of N-Benzoyl(thio)benzamides, N-Benzoyl(thio, seleno)ureas, and their Ni(II)- and Cu(II)-1:2-chelatesThe mass spectra of the title compounds are discussed. It can be shown that the difference between the fragmentations of the free and coordinated ligands is preferentially caused by different stabilities of the ligand-metal bonding. In the chelates the oxygen-metal bonding fragmentates considerably easier than the sulphur-metal bonding.
    Notes: Die Massenspektren der Titelverbindungen werden diskutiert. Es wird gezeigt, daß die Unterschiede in den elektronenstoßinduzierten Fragmentierungen der freien und der koordinierten Liganden im wesentlichen durch die verschiedene Stabilität der Ligatoratom-Metall-Bindung verursacht werden. Die Sauerstoff-Metall-Bindung fragmentiert im Chelat wesentlich leichter als die Schwefel-Metall-Bindung.

    Description / Table of Contents: The synthesis of cerium(III) chelates with β-diketones is reported; some new compounds are prepared as their adducts with water, o-phenantroline and α,α′-dipyridyl, and the oxidation state of the cerium is determined by magnetic measurements. The stability of these chelates is discussed and the most favourable conditions for synthesis are derived. Some new cerium(IV) chelates are also described.
    Notes: Es wird über die Darstellung von Cer (III)-Chelaten mit β-Diketonen berichtet, eine Reihe neuer Verbindungen in Form von Addukten mit Wasser, o-Phenanthrolin und α,α′-Dipyridyl isoliert und die Oxydationsstufe des Cers durch magnetische Messungen bestimmt. Die Beständigkeit dieser Chelate wird diskutiert und daraus optimale Synthesebedingungen abgeleitet. Einige neue Cer(IV)-Chelate werden beschrieben.
