Notizen: Polar Kerr rotation spectra of Fe-SiO2 granular films were measured at room temperature in the wavelength region between 400 nm and 850 nm. A maximum Kerr rotation angle (θk) of 18 min was obtained when a magnetic field of 10 kOe was applied perpendicular to the film plane. We have measured θk as a function of Fe volume fraction (fv) of the films. It was found that θk increases with increasing fv and peaks at fv≈0.4. We also found that θk decreases as the Fe particle size increases. Our results indicate that the density of Fe particles and the interfaces between Fe particles and SiO2 matrix may play an important role in the Kerr rotation of granular films. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: The ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectra and coercivities of FeSi-SiO2 granular films have been measured over a wide range of FeSi volume fractions (fv). The films were prepared using the ion-beam sputtering technique and transmission electron microscopy showed that the FeSi alloy granules are embedded in a matrix of SiO2. An enhanced coercivity (Hc), as high as 329 Oe at room temperature, is observed. For some samples, there are several resonance peaks in the FMR spectra, which include one major peak and several minor peaks. The major and minor peaks correspond to the usual uniform mode and spin-wave respectively. In our experiments, the field separations between the major and the minor peaks show a complex fashion. Our results are discussed in comparison with some theoretical models.

Notizen: Mössbauer spectra of Zn0.2Fe2.3O4 particles at different temperatures have been obtained. They have been analyzed with five components, one due to the A-site Fe3+ ions, and the others due to the B-site Fe3+ and Fe2+ ions. Magnetic and electronic properties have been discussed with regard to zinc substitution and temperature dependence.

Notizen: Samples of oxygen deficient perovskites, YBa2 (Cu1−x Fex )3Oz and GdBa2 (Cu1−x Fex )3 Oz (z(approximately-equal-to)7) were prepared with up to 12% Fe substituting for Cu. A novel variation of the microwave absorption technique was employed to establish the superconducting transition in these samples and to show that the reduction in the transition temperature with increasing Fe concentration is faster in the Gd samples than in the Y ones. In both series of samples, the room-temperature Mössbauer spectra reveal two distinct Fe sites corresponding to two local oxygen coordinations, and more significantly the spectra at 4.2 K for specimens with x≥0.03 show that the Fe moments are magnetically ordered, leading to the coexistence of superconductivity and magnetism.

Notizen: Pseudobinary Pr1−xTbx(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 (0≤x≤0.4) cubic Laves single phases have been synthesized by melt spinning and subsequent annealing. Their structure, magnetic properties and stability have been investigated. The composition, at which the anisotropy of Pr1−xTbx(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 is compensated, is close to x=0.1. The spontaneous magnetostrictions λ111 of Pr0.9Tb0.1(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 and Pr0.8Tb0.2(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 are larger than 1500×10−6 and 1900×10−6, respectively. Pr1−xTbx(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 (0.1≤x≤0.4) ribbon-based materials with 3% epoxy resin combine high magnetostriction with significant magnetic coercivity. Pr0.9Tb0.1(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 is a promising magnetostrictive material. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A La-deficient manganite perovskite sample La0.54Ca0.32MnO3−δ was prepared by conventional solid-state reaction method. The Curie temperature TC is 272 K, about 10 K higher than that of La1−xCaxMnO3. A large magnetic entropy change has been observed and the maximum −ΔSM(approximate)2.9 J/kg K appears at its Curie temperature upon a 0.9 T magnetic field change. The easy fabrication and higher chemical stability make La0.54Ca0.32MnO3−δ a suitable candidate as a working substance in magnetic refrigeration technology. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: The structure and magnetic properties of PrFe10Mo2Nx compounds prepared by melt spinning have been investigated. A single-phase structure of ThMn12-like has been obtained in ribbons quenched at velocities vs below 40 m/s. The desired ThMn12 structure is considerably more stable for Pr(Fe, Mo)12 compounds than for Nd(Fe, Mo)12 compounds. Only at higher speeds than 50 m/s the PrFe10Mo2 ribbons quench into TbCu7-like compound of which Curie temperature is about 580 K. Annealing temperatures in excess of 1023 K are required to form ThMn12 crystal structure for the ribbons melt spun at 50 m/s. Upon nitrogenation at 723 K, the Curie temperatures increase to 663 and 580 K for TbCu7- and ThMn12-like nitrides, respectively. A coercivity of 3.3 kOe with a magnetization up to 118 emu/g at a field of 20 kOe has been obtained in the present ribbons. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A series of Fe45.51(Al2O3)54.49 (volume fraction) nanogranular films were prepared using the ion-beam sputtering technique. A saturated Hall resistivity of about 12.5 μΩ cm was observed at room temperature. With different annealing temperature TA up to 300 °C, the saturated Hall resistivity of the sample decreases only a little, which shows good thermal stability. The transmission electron microscopy image shows that very small Fe particles (smaller than 1 nm) embedded in the Al2O3 matrix, and connected into the network, with the ρ–T curve indicates that this Hall effect may originate from the percolation phenomenon. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A series of Co35(SiO2)65 (volume fraction) nanogranular films were prepared by ion-beam sputtering at room temperature. A tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) of about 4% at room temperature was observed. With applied magnetic field of about 1.5×103 Oe parallel to the plane of substrates during fabrication, the TMR ratio of the sample increased up to about 5% at room temperature. The results of ferromagnetic resonance showed that the isolated Co particles embedded in the SiO2 matrix were pancake-like in shape. Thus the discrepancy of TMR between the applied magnetic field parallel and perpendicular to the plane of the sample may be due to shape-induced anisotropy. ©2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Films of Fe0.1Co0.9−xSix (x=0.13, 0.28, 0.34) alloy were fabricated on a glass substrate by direct current magnetron sputtering at a substrate temperature of 400 °C and at room temperature (RT). The samples grown at 400 °C are mainly composed of crystalline Co2Si and amorphous Co(Fe) or Si, while the samples grown at RT are mainly amorphous. The polar Kerr spectra were measured in the spectral range 1.6–3.5 eV at room temperature with an applied magnetic field 10 kOe. A 0.01°–0.10° enhancement of the Kerr rotation was found at the transition from the crystalline to amorphous structure, and can be well explained by the changes of microscopic parameters, such as the change of transition energy center, the increase of magnitude of the transition matrix elements, which were obtained from fitting to experimental results. By analyzing the microscopic parameters, we concluded that the enhancement of spin-orbit coupling strength should mainly be responsible for the enhancement of the Kerr rotation. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.
